Question about Maytag MAT12CS Top Load Washer

2 Answers

Maytag MAT12CSDAW My coin-op top loading washer became unbalanced in the final spin and one of the tenants pulled the plug. How can I reset this washer- pushing in the coin tray (usual coinless start) does not seem to help. Is there a hidden reset button? Thanks

I have a commercial Maytag coin operated washer that will not work. The
"unbalance load" light is on and when I drop quarters into the
mechanism I don't even hear the timer running. I have a
schematic and can email it if you need to see the circuit.
There doesn't appear to be any "unbalance" switch, the circuit to and from the light connects to the lid switch and the timer. I was told you can
reset the unbalance condition by opening and closing the lid; I've done
this but still the problem persists. I've also tried tilting the washer front to back and right to left. No luck, any thoughts? Thanks

Try the following on a top loading washer. Prior to opening the lid, find the tiny switch that engages/disengages the water upon lid opening and closing (found on the back right corner of my model).  This is your target! Open the lid. Push the washer drum to the back to access the "real switch" underneath the lid/washer housing.   The switch can be pushed back and forward (this is how it engages/disengages water) or pulled slightly down.  Pull the switch down and close the lid. You are good to go!  Hope this helps!

Leep, open the hatch that the timer sits under. You will see the timer and actuator that the coin tray pushes to start the wash cycle. You can rotate this cam clockwise until it gets to it's home position, ususally right around the 12:00 position. Good luck

I am having the exact same problem with this exact same machine I bought 2 weeks ago, from the 1st load on. I've watched the mechanism and see that it's not rotating. Repair guy out once, thinking my tenants aren't pushing the coin slide in hard or fast enough. Have to wait another week for repair guy to come out. Obviously there's an apparent defect in the Plastic Mechanism.

How do I get my machine to just spin a load? It became unbalanced and I adjusted it and now just want to spin the water out?

Turn power on. Without selecting a cycle, push the spin speed button to select the spin speed you desire. (if you had an unbalanced load, I'd suggest a low spin speed. You can repeat after with the next higher speed if desired) Push start.
This will give about a 12 to 14 minute pump and spin only cycle.

My washer's digital time screen changes from the time remaining to a symbol that looks like "UL".

This error code indicates that an unbalanced load is detected.

Click the following to learn more about unbalanced loads in the BravosTM washers. The example is for an impeller washer but is applicable to washers with agitators.

Is the wash load balanced?

If the load is unbalanced, the washer will display this code while attempting to balance the load at the end of the wash cycle and before the final spin. If the code remains and the wash cycle dial is flashing after the recovery routine has stopped, open lid and redistribute the load. Close lid and press Start/Pause.

Is the washer level? Does the washer rock when pushed against the corners?

If the washer is not level, the washer may be more sensitive to unbalanced loads. The washer must be level from side to side and from front to back. The front and rear feet must be in firm contact with the floor. Make sure the locknuts are tightened. See the Installation Instructions for details.

To remove the error display, press Power/Cancel or Pause/Cancel once.

Ftf2140es3 won't completely drain or do final spin.

I have one that does the same thing at times. remove the bottom front panel. You will see a black boot that comes down from the tub. Loosen the clamp on top of the boot. You should be able to pinch the boot and feel something hard inside the boot. Pull the boot down from the tub and put your fingers down inside the boot and pull up the coin collector. It may be full of junk, coins ect. Clean it and replace the boot and clamp. This should help you.

a small run of these actually had an out of balance switch and fuse assembly that cut power to the machine if it went way out of balance ,check and see if yours has one and replace the fuse at first but you may have to replace the entire assembly

it not a belt, there is a $20 plastic and rubber coupling between the motor and the transmission that has broken.  It needs replacing.

Problems with the washer

The manual for this model says the washer has tried unsuccessfully to unlock the washer. It suggests you ensure the door is firmly closed and to try again, if this fails then to unplug your unit for 2 minutes to allow the circuit board to reset.

So far as the clothes being wet, you may have a situation where the load became unbalanced and the drum struck the interior floor of the washer where a switch is located. This swich is designed to stop an unbalanced spin cycle from damaging the machine. To reset this, remove the four screws inside the doors opening. This will remove the door and allow you to pull off the face of the washer. On the base of the drum where you will find a switch. Depress (push upwards) on the button and ensure it is in the outer most position to reset the switch.
