Question about Pioneer Audio & Video Receivers

1 Answer

I have a Pioneer VSX-517K that does not powers up. I also do not get the standby led to light up. The fuses are ok and the stand by voltage is 5V. I do not understand the connections ACRY or ACWP and what voltages that they should measure for the unit to work. I have a copy of the service manual and still am confused as how to conquer the problem. Thank you for your advice!

Hello - Our Pioneer vsx-305 display screen doesn't light up anymore and we are unable to get it to work even though the on/off button appears to operating correctly (red standby light comes on). T

It is likely failing due to age.Cold solders fail, corrosion can cut a connection, a capacitor can harden and fail... a myriad of things can happen in time. Repairing it will cost more than an inexpensive replacement. The same receiver can be had on ebay from $60 up (with shipping). It is a cost benefit issue at this point.

Sounds like the amp has an internal fault, most likely in the power amp/driver stage. If you have a manual and know how to repair amplifiers you could do it,otherwise it is a job for a technician.

"enter and advanced surround keys"? I don't see that documented as a special function in the manual.

BTW: other than the Flashing light, is there a malfunction?

Page 72 describes how it REALLY resets...

Resetting the main unit

Use this procedure to reset all the receiver's settings to the factory default. Use the front

panel controls to do this.

1 Switch the receiver into standby.

2 While holding down the TONE button, press and hold the STANDBY/ON button for about three seconds.

3 When you see RESET? appear in the display, press ENTER .

OK? shows in the display.

4 Press SYSTEM SETUP to confirm.

OK appears in the display to indicate that the receiver has been reset to the factory default
settings.

the light is an ledt they very rarely go bad ..to confirm its bad you must first see that the led is getting power --a voltmeter one end to the frame of the unit and the other to either lead on the led will confirm if its bad or not a typical led will run on or near 3 volts dc... if theres no power at the led than the problem is elsewhere

have you fixed it already?
I have the same receiver with the same problem as yours.
I found the fault in the voltage selector rotary switch. I'm refering to the round voltage selector switch not the other one, because you'll notice that there are 2 voltage selector switches at the back. The lock was broken so it couldn't switch the primary terminals of the main transformer.
Basically this amp has 2 power transformer, the small standby traffo and the large main traffo.
Try to press that round switch and press the front panel power switch. If it goes ON, then fix the center lock of that round switch.
Hope it helps.

The stand-by light is supposed to go off when you power on the receiver. You should get the display light and you should have power on.
