When I put in a movie, it will play for while, then I have all these little digital squares on the screen that pulsate. I take the DVD to another unit and it plays perfectly, so I am sure it is the unit, not the movie.

Unit is old enough that the laser pickup may be worn out. Not an uncommon problem with older disc players. You may try to obtain the laser pickup yourself at someplace like MCM eletctronics

I have a Rosen entertainment DVD system and it keeps displaying Damaged Disc every time I put a disc in the player. It won't play any discs.

It has either a dirty or bad optical pickup unit (the part that reads the disc) and usually parts are not sold (only a complete DVD section if even available)

If not dirty may be cheaper just to replace the player itself.

Tip

When you try to play a DVD game on Xbox 360 it tries to play as a movie?

c on your Xbox 360 console, you may receive an error message. This article presents step-by-step guidance to help you determine whether your disc is playable.
SYMPTOMS When you try to play a disc, you may receive the following error message: Can’t read this DVD.
CAUSE The DVD or game disc may be dirty or damaged. Because the console cannot read the disc well, it may even mistake a game disc for a DVD and report this error. If this problem occurs with multiple discs, even clean and undamaged discs, there may be a problem with your Xbox 360 console.
Note If you receive a different error message, such as one of the following messages, the problem is a different problem:
Error message 1 Can't play DVD. Wrong region code. Error message 2 Can’t play DVD. Family settings restrict playback of this DVD. If you receive one of these error messages, see the corresponding Knowledge Base article: 907620 While attempting to play a standard DVD movie using your Xbox 360 console, you receive the error message: "Can't play DVD. Wrong region code" 908645 While attempting to play a DVD movie using your Xbox 360 console, you receive the error message: "Can’t play DVD. Family settings restrict playback of this DVD"
THINGS TO TRY Here are some things that you can do to try to fix the problem or to determine what caused it.
Determine whether the disc is dirty or damaged Discs that are smudged, scratched, or otherwise damaged cannot be read by the Xbox 360 console. You will want to examine the disc to see whether it has smudges, scratches, or other damage. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Examine the disc for dirt or damage: a. Pick up the disc by its edges. Do not touch the top or bottom surface. b. Examine the shiny side of the disc to make sure that the disc is clean and has no damage.
NoteScratches that follow the curve of the disc are very damaging and prevent a disc from being read. If your disc has even one of these kinds of scratches, the disc is damaged, and you will no longer be able to play it. If this is the case, see step 4. 2. If the disc is dirty, clean the disc by hand: • Use a soft, clean, dry, chemical-free cloth to clean the disc. • Lightly wipe from the center of the disc outward. 3. After you clean the disc, try to load it in the Xbox 360 console. If the disc still will not load or you receive the same error message, the disc is damaged, and you will no longer be able to play it. If this is the case, see step 4. 4. If the disc is damaged, do one of the following: • Because DVD discs are not game discs and the disc was damaged because of misuse of some type, such as not storing the disc in its case, the only thing that you can do is buy a new one. • If you feel that the disc was damaged by the Xbox 360 console in some way, please contact Xbox Customer Support. My front loader reads disc error or unplayable no matter what disc I insert. It worked just fine for about 2 years. It doesn ot get heavy cd use, but everyday radio/alarm use.

To resolve this issue, try one or all of the following:
  • The Wave® music system is designed to play commercial CDs, CD-Rs, MP3-encoded CDS and CD-RWs. If your system has trouble playing MP3 CDs, make sure the discs were recorded with compatible formats. See Cannot play MP3 CDs

  • The system may not be able to play certain CD-RW discs. Playability is dependant on how the disc was recorded, including the format it was recorded in and the actual disc used for recording.
Note: iTunes defaults to AAC as the encoding format. In order to use iTunes to make CDs that will play on the Wave® music system, you’ll need to change the format to MP3 How to Choose Import Options

  • Different brands of CD-Rs and CD-RWs use different materials which may affect the ability of a player to read them. If you are burning your own CD-Rs or CD-RWs, experiment with different brands of discs

  • If a commercial disc won’t play, check for scratches, fingerprints or other physical damage. Try the CD in another player. If it still won’t play, there may be a problem with the disc

  • Reset the system by disconnecting the power cord from the wall for one minute, then plug the system back in

"No Disc" message when trying to play DVD or music CD.

Try a "Laser Lens Cleaner" preferably one that uses fluid, run that thru the machine a couple times. You can find them at just about any retail store that sells CD's/DVD's or electronics. Next, if you have any liquid car polish, take a couple drops and spread on the surface of the disc. Use a microfiber towel to clean off. This helps clean off smudges and protects the disc from scratches. And it works great on damaged discs too! If your discs still do not play, then the unit needs to be repaired or replaced. Hope this helps

this is the hard-drive, being 6 years old, it,s worn out.
Constantly read/writing Data. and the possibility of being full of dust. it,s had a great life.
