keyboard and mouse stopped working. laptop went in for repairs after 6 months of ownership. came back with new motherboard. 6 months later the problem resurfaced. Keyboard and touchpad are useless. Keyboard unresponsive in OS and touchpad responds in jolts.

The problem surfaced in a really weird manner.. read here about it:http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthre...

I'm doing electrical engineering at the moment, maybe we can work together, would be shweet if i could get the thing working again

It sounds like there is a problem with the integration of software to bios "basic input output system" If the motherboard was replaced and then failed, odds are whatever caused the issue arose within the new motherboard they installed which was prolly a used one knowing Acer. I'd say try to over-ride the problem by 2 ways. 1 send it back to acer for another board, 2 purchase a usb keyboard and use a traditional mouse and when you upgrade, go dell.

For the guy who replaced the keyboard chip, that's useless, the basic input output system is what controls those functions,,,

Try looking for a bios update on the acer site.

I guess you have a mechanical problem, sounds like the mother board have some issues on starting all devices.

If you could use keyboard to go in the bios, and see the screen, if would be the OS that need to be repaired.

Try to remove ram memory and put it back after a while. Do it on removed battery.

USB wireless keyboard doesn't work

You need to unload the USB drivers for the keyboard and let windows find them again at restart. How does a novice do this? It's not hard. Go to Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, Keyboards. Right click on this and select uninstall. Reboot your machine. If the drivers are not corrupted they should load fine, if they are corrupted then Windows will ask for the original operating system disk.

All this assumes that your keyboards are electronically working. This last holiday season alot of people brought in their Logitech - Target specials that no longer worked. Seems that if you insert the batteries backwards once the keyboard no longer operates (mouse OK). Never checked in to it too deep.

Good Luck

Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook Boots to Windows, but nothing works. No keyboard, no mouse, no usb or CD, no external monitor. I have an Aspire 5100 Acer Laptop that has no keyboard or mouse function period...

Try booting your computer from CD ROM with the OS CD/DVD already inserted and when prompted just try repair. If that does not work re-install the same on the same 'partition' assuming it to be C by deleting the the windows system files only. While doing so keep the internet on and immediately after the basic version of the OS is installed and the m/c boots-up for the first time, go to the official website and download the latest drivers for every component like toch-pad, keypad, display, audio, etc.(i.e. almost all the drivers)

Keyboard and mouse stopped working

I would check the Flex cable's first. If keyboard is not working sometimes this does not allow the pad to work. Here is one of the sites I use for repairs. Good luck and have a good day.
