Question about Philips ProScreen LC4600B&LC4700F Replacement Lamp - 482213410123 Projector Lamp
Philips Model # CDD3610 /81 CD RW device in this computer tower (Gateway ATX Tower M#GP6-450) running Windows XP Home Edition Operating System.
Device has NO POWER whatsoever, is not detected in my Gateway BIOS, NOR in Windows Device Manager.
Device had quit running on its own many months ago. I have recently installed Windows XP Home BRAND NEW just recently.
Disconnect the power to the computer and ground yourself by touching the outside of the case at a screw. Open & remove the cover on the side of your computer and take a look at the back of the CD drive.
There should be two sets of cables attached to the back of the drive. One is a wide flat cable that attachs to the mother board. The other is a smaller set of 3-5 wires with usually a white or clear plastic connector that comes from the power supply (the box in back with a fan inside it). This latter is the power to the drive. Make sure it is firmly connected. If it's loose, seat it firmly. If it's not loose, check to see that the wide flat cable is seated firmly at both ends.
If these connections seem to be intact, you could try disconnecting them, then rebooting the computer, then shut down, unplug again and after grounding yourself, reconnect them. This will trigger the plug and play in xp to detect the cd drive and attempt to install it anew. If it works, you'll see a balloon window near the notification area that says new hardware found, shortly after you boot up and log into windows (with an administrator account).
If that doesn't work, I'd suggest that the drive itself may have died. You could probably install a new one yourself, but if you're uncomfortable with that, take it to a local shop and they'll be happy to sell you a used or new cd drive to fit your needs.
I hope this answers your question. If I can be of any further assistance, please feel free to follow up. And in any case, let us know how this sorts itself out.
