Your best bet and where i would start is to identify where the coulors are conected at the fernace. in the industry we use standard wireing coulors wher green is g for fan and red is rh=switched trans power for heating . rc=switched transformer power for cooling . now normaly there is only one transormer so you would put a jumper from rc to rh and conect the red wire from the furnace to eather of these.jumper installed. the y is your cooling witch is normaly the yellow wire. o on the stat is for a heat pump if you nead to energize reversing valve in cooling mode . w is first stage heating and this can be conected to eather brown or white youll have to check at the furnace to see witch it is . the final wire eather brown or white should be conected to c or 24v common witch you didnt say you see on the thermostat. once again
red to rc and rh
green to g
yellow to y
brown or white to w
brown or white to common or c

please post feadback hope i was of help

Why won't thermostat turn on after I changed the batteries?

I think you may have the model # incorrect, However if you have a thermostat as in the type that are hand held, polarity of the batteries is the 1st thing I would check, then test them for proper voltage, corrosion will often interrupt that small of a voltage, clean the terminals and test it .

A wall mounted like a central HVAC system typically will not require batteries to operate, this is for memory and they will work fine even if no batteries are installed, however there are battery powered stats too, meaning non parasitic type that not powered by the transformer in the air handler.
I will include a basic drawing of a residential HVAC thermostat to show you how the 24 volts powers most thermostats.

Programmable thermostat

Basically, your going to press either of the arrows until it flashes, or about 1 second.

Then you set the temperature you desire and then press and hold the HOLD button until HOLD is displayed in the display.

Congrats, your on a permanent hold.

Then your next step would be to go get a real thermostat, install it on the wall, and then throw that piece of **** Hunter out the window as hard as you can.

The biggest problem with the Hunter stats is that they are cheap. On top of that, the programmable stats have a factory set program that cannot be simply deleted. Its always there, no matter what you do. And it makes for hassles when it goes back to factory settings and you either have to painstakingly re-program it or deal with the factory settings.

Here is a link to the Hunter manual.

I would recommend to you the Honeywell line-up. The Visionpro 8000 series is a very nice and user friendly thermostat. Its the same one I have on my wall. Very easy to use and understand. Its touchscreen and the screen can be locked to avoid unwanted use of the system.

I have a Red, White, Blue and Green wire , need to wire a Hunter B01 MOdel or 44110 Thermostat has the following ports available G, RC, RH (RC & RH Have a jumper between them), Y/O, W/B, Y/1

From what you describe you have a heat only system with no AC. If that is so, then you would wire it as follows.

Red wire = RC (leave the jumper in place)
Green wire = G
White wire = W/B
Blue wire = is unused because the thermostat is battery powered and does not require a common wire.

I reccomend you consider not using the Hunter T-stat. They are so extremely problem prone and unreliable. You will be much better off with a Honeywell or White Rodgers T-stat.

You will also need to program the Hunter T-stat for your system per the instructions.

Thermo smoked when elec. turned on

Where are the wires connected in the heater ? They should be on R and W, if the W is on C you are shorting the heat anticipator in the thermostat. If the unit is wired right look for a spot where the wire is rubbed thru and touching the metal housing of the heater.

New thermostat not starting compressor

With the jumper inplace does the compressor start? What about without? Unless you have more than one transformer you should leavethe jumper.
