Sticking dials on washing machine

Hi, i have the above mentioned washing machine and my girlfriend or one of her friends (probably during one of their ladies nights in) spilt something down the front of the washing machine and now the dials are sticking and its difficult to get it to stay on 1 programme and sometimes to move at all. I was wondering if there is anyway to remove the dials *without breaking them* to clean and remove the sticky source?

any help would be greatly appreciated

SOURCE: hotpoint wma54 washing machine

Being fairly mechanically adept - I tried this on my old Hotpoint WMA31 -- it took around 90 mins to get the drum out (virtually everything had to come out) and 1- mins to split it in two - then another 30 mins to knock the bearings out. I then ruined one new bearing trying to knock rather than pull it in and had to order a second set - then whatever I tried I could not get the drum fully back on the spindle (which was rather pitted) so ended up scrapping it !

As an aid to putting it back together I took 32 digital photos of different stages of getting the drum out so that is a measure of complexity...

Belts are an easy change. You access from the back of the machine. 3 or 4 screws take off the plate whihc will expose the belt. BE SURE TO UNPLUG 1st! so you don't get scocked

The spin dry of the above mentioned washing machine spin dry not working properly cuts off what parts are required to fix this ?.

If a machine is out of balance when spinning it will shut down---there's an unbalance switch that controls this---also on some machines if not properly set level or feet not touching the floor causing the machine to rock---it will shut down---the remedy for that is to redistribute the clothes then is should resume spinning----another issue could be the timer----out of sequence or jumping ahead during that cycle---has the timer/control ever been wet as this will cause some issues---this is my thoughts on this--good luck

My front loader washing machine euromaid WM5 makes a terrible noise during spin cycle I think something like a screw is caught behind the barrel how can I access it ????

Hi! It's probably a bra wire if u have a woman in your life. They quite often get stuck around the heating element near the bottom of the drum. Get a bright light and stick your head in to see through the holes and see if you can pull it out! Hope this helps.

I need the users guide for the above mentioned model of washing machine

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
Unfortunately you do not say 'above' what the make and model is......but it doesn't matter anyway ;-0)
You will need to type into your search engine/web browser '(make) washer manual' and you should be presented with a number of sources from which you can either download for free or have to pay a nominal amount. During the process you will be asked for the actual model number!
Good luck,
John C.

Suddenly off during filling

I called a friend who used to have a Maytag store and is an electrician, who said it was probably the lid switch assembly, and we checked it, inside the panel back, could not get it to work, so today he replaced it and it works fine! That little plastic part controls all the electrical and operating actions of the whole machine.

Washing Machine won't spin

Could be worn carbon brushes, or possibly defective shock absorbers

Washer dryer sticks on j cycle does not spin or drain

check no foreign object stuck in pump impellor and that it turns freely. if that is ok then check continuity thro drain pump. if no muiltimeter, try connecting drain pump to mains direct to see it works

Asko 12605 overheating the wash water

(even not taking in hot water when filling before the wash stage which seems good)

The washer fills with cold water then heats it up 3 degrees a min. Your problem does sound like a faulty thermostat. Especailly if the glass door does get hot even if it is on 85f.

No reset. Carbon brushes are worrn out. Consider changing the bearings while you have the motor apart. Se for spares.
