Re: Can't gain access to internet on Dell D600 used...
Let’s check the network controller on your laptop. . Go to "Device Manager" and look if any yellow or red alerts are being displayed next to “Network adapters”. To access the "Device Manager" go to the 'Control Panel", "Administrative Tools", "Computer Management" and select "Device Manager" located in the left side column. If there is an alert, double click on that device to determine the problem, i.e.… device not configured, cannot start this device, etc… If you have any other questions please contact me.

If you want to connect to internet there are different ways on how to do it.
The first one is to have a wireless broadband modem that you will use to gain signal and access the internet.
The second one is to find a Free Wifi Zone where you can access the internet using you Laptop wifi. (This is what i suggest you must do, so that you dont have to spend money to access the internet) but some wifi zone are password protected so be sure to find a open shared wifi.
The third one to apply for dsl /lan connected internet that uses ethernet wires that will be connected from the modem to your wifi in able to gain access to internet.
Has your modem been hard reset recently? if so, it may require that you bridge the modem out to work with the router- ESP. if you use Verizon DSL. If so, contact your ISP, and ask for assistance in bridging out the modem.
You will need to check the settings of the router.
You are able to go online when you connect the computer directly to the modem.
Your internet service provider is DSL.
You can try to reconfigure the router.
Press the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. release it. unplug the power to the router.
plug it back in. wait for 1 minute and try to reconfigure the router.

I bet you are using the phone modem that canme in your machine. You need to connect the Network card ( Ethernet Card) and make sure the drivers are working. Find it is System, Hardware, device manager, look for ethernet.
Connection icon and see if the netcard driver is installed.Connect the cat5 cable that was sent to you with the DSL modem box. It chould be a yellow cable... It only fits one way and in a maked plug on the DSL modem and into the network card in the computer. Everything there after should go automatically.
Ask the net what the URL is to your modem and then hook it back up to your desk top and use your browser to access the modem. It may have a hint or might come up with your pass code. You can always go out dial up and get the info
theres a possiblity that the modem is set to bridge mode,in that way,you will not be able to connect to the internet direclty to the modem,192.168.1.1 is usually the deault gatewayy address for almost all verizon modem and username is admin and password is admin as well,if admin didnt take for the password, try using password as the password
Evidently there are more issues with your laptop besides trying to connect to the internet via DSL. The only other suggestion is try running the Verizon DSL installation CD that came with your initial DSL installation for the PC. If you didn’t get one or can’t find it, call Verizion for assistance. As far as your “Device Manager” not displaying any devices, you may have to get your laptop’s operating system reinstalled or use FixYa’s Repair Directory to locate a repair shop in you locale. Without the “Device Manager” program, I am unable to suggest any other solutions. Your responses are intended to improve the level of service provided. Please rate your experience. Thank You.
The phone jack on your laptop is used for Dial-up only, i.e.… AOL, EarthLink, etc…. If you’re trying to connect to the internet via Verizon DSL, then you need to connect to a DSL modem just like your PC is. On your laptop you’ll find another jack similar to a phone jack but a little bit wider. This is a 10/100 Base T connection used for Broadband or Hi-speed internet that you will use to connect to your DSL. If you want, you can take the internet cable from the back of your PC and try plugging it in to your laptop. You will need to power OFF and ON the DSL modem you that it will search for the IP (internet protocol) address of your laptop. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions please contact me.
