Can't gain access to internet on Dell D600 used laptop

I tried connecting it to the modem I have for my Verizon DSL on my desk top but that didn't work either. Any other suggestions would be welcomed.

Let’s check the network controller on your laptop. . Go to "Device Manager" and look if any yellow or red alerts are being displayed next to “Network adapters”. To access the "Device Manager" go to the 'Control Panel", "Administrative Tools", "Computer Management" and select "Device Manager" located in the left side column.

If there is an alert, double click on that device to determine the problem, i.e.… device not configured, cannot start this device, etc…

Dont know how to connect to internet

If you want to connect to internet there are different ways on how to do it.
  1. The first one is to have a wireless broadband modem that you will use to gain signal and access the internet.
  2. The second one is to find a Free Wifi Zone where you can access the internet using you Laptop wifi. (This is what i suggest you must do, so that you dont have to spend money to access the internet) but some wifi zone are password protected so be sure to find a open shared wifi.
  3. The third one to apply for dsl /lan connected internet that uses ethernet wires that will be connected from the modem to your wifi in able to gain access to internet.
Hope i Help..

Do I need Wi-Fi to get on the internet on my Acer E-Machines E725/E525 Notebook Laptop Computer. I bought a wireless router and a wireless USB and neither one of them or working even when I put the CD's in...

IF you do NOT have DSL, "but I do not have DSL" (sic) then you must connect up to the internet, via a MODEM, the phone line connects to the Modem, the MODEM connects to the PC via Ethernet cable. Then you use the Connect to internet Wizard. You will need to enter your login and password, for your ISP, so you will be able to access the internet. You also must enter the ISP's PHONE Number to Dial up, FIRST, then you must enter your login, and password. Then you will connect up to your ISP, and be able to go onto the internet through them. That's it, really.

Go to internet connections, verify your poota has an icon enabled, if showing disabled/enable

If no icons you need DSL setup disc for new connection>

Device Manager

Evidently there are more issues with your laptop besides trying to connect to the internet via DSL. The only other suggestion is try running the Verizon DSL installation CD that came with your initial DSL installation for the PC. If you didn’t get one or can’t find it, call Verizion for assistance. As far as your “Device Manager” not displaying any devices, you may have to get your laptop’s operating system reinstalled or use FixYa’s Repair Directory to locate a repair shop in you locale. Without the “Device Manager” program, I am unable to suggest any other solutions.

Getting online

The phone jack on your laptop is used for Dial-up only, i.e.… AOL, EarthLink, etc….
If you’re trying to connect to the internet via Verizon DSL, then you need to connect to a DSL modem just like your PC is. On your laptop you’ll find another jack similar to a phone jack but a little bit wider. This is a 10/100 Base T connection used for Broadband or Hi-speed internet that you will use to connect to your DSL. If you want, you can take the internet cable from the back of your PC and try plugging it in to your laptop. You will need to power OFF and ON the DSL modem you that it will search for the IP (internet protocol) address of your laptop.
Hope this helps. If you have any other questions please contact me.
