New lid switch needed?

My washer recently stopped going to the spin cycle...... we think the lid switch may need replacing. How do I get it out? I thought the top of the washer would somehow lift off, but if it does, I'm not seeing how to do this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Lid removal ? may i suggest you first remove the rear panel then you may find the top panel was held in place by the top securing screws holding rear panel ? you may have to slide top panel rearwards a little to clear from front then lift off ? careful of wires to plug/switch hope this helps ?

Kenmore washer will not go into the Rinse cycle. I just purchased the washer, and whenever it is ready to begin the rinse cycle, it stops. I even let it go, thinking that it may need a few minute to...

Is this washer new or did you by it used? If you bought it used, then the problem is likely with the lid switch. If the lid switch is defective, your washer can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washer to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

My washer washes clothes but when it gets to the rinse cycle it stops. i have replaced the timer and still does the same thing. what else clould it be?

when it gets to the rinse or when it gets to the spin? it may be the switch for the lid, meaning the washer may think th lid is open and it wont rinse or spin. try this: try to get at the two wires on the back of the lid switch and tape them together, if it works than your good to go, or you can put a new one in but you really dont need it.

Kenmore series 70 washer won't stop agitating when lid Is lifted.

I have a Series 80 and when I lift the lid it does not stop aggitating when in wash mode. When I lift the lid it does stop spinning when in rinse mode. As designed.

To stop wash-mode aggitation at lid-lift, using the existing lid switch and other electrical components, is not easy and not recommended. I can think of a way to do it (triple-pole lid switch) but I will not detail the idea .. for safety concerns.

To stop aggitation, simply use the main settings dial control. You'll save money and possibly prevent a fire hazard!

If the washer fills and stops at the rinse cycle, and then will not spin or drain, you more than likely have a defective lid switch. If you open and close the washer lid and do not hear a “clicking” sound, the switch has probably come loose, or has broken. There are two mounting screws that hold the switch in place along the washer rim. Also, inspect the lid to ensure the small plastic piece that pushes down on the switch when the lid is closed has not broken off. This is called the “lid strike”. If the lid strike is broken or missing, the lid switch will not activate. If you diagnose the problem and need to replace the switch, you can click on the following link for advice on how to replace it:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r397101-replacing_lid_switch

If you need further assistance, such as where to get replacements parts, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: You do not need to drain the wash tub to replace the switch. Once the switch has been replaced, the washer should spin and drain, which will prevent you from needing to bail water.
