Try doing this steps:

Try restarting the console.
If restarting the console does not resolve the behavior, follow these steps:
* Turn the console off.
* Unplug all the power and AV cables from the console.
* Unplug the power cord from the wall socket.
* Firmly reconnect all the cables.
* Turn on the console.
If these steps do not resolve the behavior turn the console off remove the hard drive, and then turn on the console. If the error light is no longer displayed, turn the console off, re-attach the hard drive, and then turn on the console.

    |From service manual : E74: AV cable error

    It means there may be a problem with the AV cable, try using
    a different AV cable, and test the connection.
    As said, try also unplugging the console from power for five minutes.

    E74 can also be a problem with the internal
    AV encoder chip, in this case Microsoft offers replacement for first three years, sometimes even more, but you do not want me to tell you to contact Microsoft!

    Also I forgot to mention, if the fault is the internal
    AV encoder chip, then you will need to replace the motherboard, as the audio video encoder is built in the motherboard.

    As I told you, check video cable, try unplugging power to reset, if it does not work, well .... you dont wanna be told to contact them, but in that case contact Microsoft.

One red light and E74

You see the lower-right quadrant of the Ring of Light flash red on the front of your Xbox 360 console. You also receive the following error message in multiple languages on your television screen or display: E74. System Error. Contact Xbox Customer Support.

You will see the following indicator on the front panel of your Xbox 360 console, which will repeatedly flash on and off:

If one red light is flashing and you see a different error message or code than the one listed above, or you don’t see an error message or code, your console may be experiencing a different issue. If this is the case, please refer to the “References/Links” section at the bottom of this article. 1. Turn off the console, disconnect all the cables, and then reconnect all the cables. Turn the console back on.
  2. Turn off the console, and then disconnect any accessories that are connected. For example, disconnect any Xbox 360 controllers, Xbox 360 Memory Units, and the Xbox 360 Hard Drive. Having the e-74 code is when the video chip on the 360 over heats and becomes un soldered your best bet is to turn the 360 on with a towel over it and wait for 3 red lights the call microsoft and tell them the 3 lights issue dont mention the 1 light or it will cost you dearly around 150$

One red flashing light e74 rror code

E74: AV cable error... There is a problem with the AV cable, try using a different AV cable. If the cable is known
to be working then there is a 90% chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip connected
directly to the AV cable) in rare cases it is the GPU.
If you just got it take it back, if you have had it for a little while you need to call microsoft and send it off for repair

Xbox 360 1 red light

If everytime you turn on your XBOX 360 and it displays this message it could mean a hardware failure :

E74 Means : There is high chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip near the AV cable connection) it can also be caused by a faulty AV cable so check that first. In some cases it is a problem with the GPU and may be repairable by doing the x-clamp replacement

I would advise you call customer support
They are very helpfull and if your XBOX 360 is under warranty they will offer a pre-paid postal service to pick your XBOX 360 up , and will diagnose the problem .

If your based in the uk , the number is : 0800 587 1102

I hope this helps everyone
