Very easy to replace...at least on my JVM1790. Remove the top vent....the long plastic thing that runs along the top of the MW. Two screws on top of the micro. Behind the charcola filter (if you installed one) is an access area to the bulb. remove one screw and the entire assy comes out. Simply R & R the bulb.

While your owner's manual shows you how to change the cooktop lamps, it does not address the internal bulb.

This is because the oven must be taken down from the wall. This is much easier if you still have the installation instructions, and should be considered a two-person job for safety.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

Once the oven is out of the wall, the outer cover must be taken off, then you'll see the lamp in the holder on top of the oven chassis.

The exploded view which shows the lamp (drawing ref # 283) is here. You will need the free Acrobat Reader to view or print it in case you don't have it already.

The halogen lamp is part # WB36X10344 or you can get a generic replacement at grocery stores, hardware stores, or places like Wal-Mart or Lowe's. If you prefer, you can order it ahead of time here.

You must not touch the new one with your bare skin, as the oils will shorten the bulb life.

your a total idiot if you think you need to take the whole microwave out from under the cabinet and you should never be able to post anything ever again anywhere in the whole world. I had both bulbs out of the GE model JVM1790sk in less than 3 minutes. by only removing 3 very small screws. Did *********** have any children that lived.

you should have mentioned not to touch the bulbs with your fingers as the oil from your skin will cause halogen bulbs to burn out pre-maturely.otherwise great post. microwave service guy below your post is an idiot.

My GE Profile JVM1790 convection microwave has issue. Was using the convection portion when a small spark and flame appeared and then went out and soot and smoke was all inside and now will not heat up...

Yep, that sounds very much like the heating element burned out. It happens. You should be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer's website... or there may be a list of repair centers in the manual - pick one & try to order the heating element through them.

My GE spacesaver microwave interior light is out. How do I change it?

The light is usually accessible when the oven cover is removed. Remove the cover after the oven has been unplugged for several hours. You will see the globe once the cover is off. Take care not to touch any other components in the oven and do not reconnect it till the cover is replaced and secure,

I have a GE jvm1790 microwave that when its pluged in, the magnatron fan runs with the interior light is on constantly. I can't start either the microwave or convection. Everything stops when the door is...

The megatron tube is not working. The microwave should turn off when the door is opened for safety. If it is still under warranty, return it. If not, you may consider replacing the unit. I know its expensive, but its just taking up cabinet space tonight.

I want to replace the light in my GE microwave model # JVM1790. i can't figure out where the light is and how to get to it?

If you mean the cooktop lights, the owner's manual covers that here.

If you mean the inside light, you would have to remove the oven from the wall and take the outer cover off.

If so, the installation instructions (here) are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

These use halogen lamps. You must not touch the new one with your bare skin, as the oils will shorten the bulb life.

Interior light staying on in GE JVM1790 and

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch or a loose door switch mount, which are pretty simple problems to fix.

Since it's less than one year old, it would be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free.

Heat doesn't come on in microwave

If you have the experience with discharging a capacitor and you have a (VOM) Volt Olm Meter. Unplug microwave, discharge capacitor, and check the resistance of the two thermal cut-off discs by removing the lead and set VOM to RX1. If you don't get a reading of zero, replace the discs. For part go to www.partselect.com and enter your model number. If you found any of these suggestions helpful, please rate my solution. D. Lange

Code on the space between oven and microwave

It's normally about 30", but that info will be in either the installation manual or the owner's manual, depending on the brand you choose.

You mention SpaceSaver, that's GE.

Interior Light

The interior oven light can be accessed in the following way:
1.Open door and remove the top grill via the 2 screws along the top edge.
2. In the interior light will be under metal plate with fasten by single screw. The halogen bulb is rated at 120V 20watt. Looks like a G-8 bulb with 8mm pin spacing with o.a.l. 1-5/8" long
