I have experience the same problem with you but not with delete button but next right button at the navigation panel. I think you might have these kind off problem too. The problem is your main PCB (Printed circuit board, main board) have been rusty a bit, and unluckily its appear below the delete button switch. So the rust prevent the circuit to be completed.

Since its less than a year, so i expect that it is under warranty. Quick!! send them to service centre, else you might quoted with $160 (not the exact amount... this is what i pay last time) for the PCB.

Else if the camera is out off warranty and you have the guts to open your self, then you can just use some screw driver and slowly rub the rust. IF ONLY YOU ARE CONFIDENT.

Nikon D80... push button down, it clicks but does not record photo.

Are you sure it did not take a picture? It is possible your picture review function is turned off so you do not see a preview of the picture immediately after clicking on the shutter. You also need to push the button down long and hard in order to ensure that a shot is taken

How do i delete all the pictures from the memory card while still in the camera?

There are two buttons on the D80 that you have to hold both down until the top LCD says FOR. Then let them go and then press them again.
This will format the card and delete EVERYTHING on it.

When it has finished the LCD will show the number of photos available on the card.

The buttons have a red symbol next to then, they are the metering button by the shutter release and the bin card on the top right back of the camera.

Cannot delete a photo from my card.

After reloading a card after your have transfered your photos to a computer, you should always format the card in the camera. Consult the manual on how to do this.
This makes sure all the photos are deleted and rectifies the file structure on the card to suit the camera, so you get maximum write speed and less chance of corrupting the card.
