Hard drive password can be retrieved by using the serial number of the Hard Drive itself | You need to call Toshiba support for them to retrieve the password using the serial number of the HDD which can be found in BIOS.

My video card on a Toshiba Qosmio 35-av650 is fried so I switched to base video. Is the Standby (S3) feature affected by my use of base video--I ask this because now neither Standby nor Hibernate are...

no changing video card does not affect in hibernating or standby. go to control panel and check if your standby and hibernation options are activated and if they are then you should make some space on your c drive because hibernation property requires 1gb of free disk space

Hi,
go to control panel,power options,
change your power settings
stop Hibernation,
" choose what to do when I hit the power button" etc....

Hibernation causes problems with startups

Don't use hibernation, use standby,sleep
or turn it off completly
should cure the problem

Regards
Richard.

ThinkPad T60 Desktop Not Restored After Hibernation/Standby

there is something that runs most of the interface between the user and the computer it is called explorer.exe to get the task manager open, you can try pressing CTRL+Shift+Delete another alternative is to do an OS reinstallation.

To get explorer.exe

1) press Ctrl+Alt+Delete; in unsuccessful try Ctrl+****+Delete
2) if task manager opens click on 'New Task..." (if task manager does not open, consider reinstalling your OS or simply don't go into standby/hibernate)
3) Once you get the New Task dialog box, type explorer.exe or C:/Windows/explorer.exe

Computer does not stay in hibernation or standby mode

That happen because on the stand by or hibernate setting the time was setting in 5 minutes.
Go to Control Panel >> Display >> Screen Saver >> Power

And set the time right there as your preferences.

Stand by icon locked Toshiba Satellite 1115-S103

i really need more info, two things:

firstly look to see if the clip (where the screen clips onto the base when it closes) is mobile and is not jammed down from something.

secondly restart, if a image comes up in your POST (when the computer boots up) push tab and then F8 or similar (it will say just read the screen = ] ) and restart windows in safe mode.

when you have booted up in safe mode check in the display and power window and tell the computer to never go into sleep or hibernate.

like i said i need more info cause this can also be caused bu a hdd contact error, or a battery falure, so please if this does not help in the slightest just post up here more info and i will be happy to help further.

good luck.
