Question about Altec Lansing Inmotion-IM600 (0021986954446) Docking Station
The back base and iPod holder front are not synching correctly (opening and closing). I want to open the player to see if I can correct it. How does it open up?
YPMDesign is correct, but to get further into the im600 you have to peel off the cover that masks the LCD (it has Altec Lansing printed on it). Once done, it exposes 2 screws, and when removed you can pull open the whole thing, exposing the main circuitry. There is nothing that can be reseated though, as all appears soldered. There is one main board, which everything connects to, then the PCB at the bottom of the system, which has the power buttton and ipod dock connector etc. Unfortunately I have been unale to resolve my problem, where the Power buttton LED lights briefly if the battery is removed and reconnected, but getting nothing on the main display, and the power button is not responding at all when depressed. Mine is sadly bin bound..

I just did it an you are almost right. After you take off the LCD screen by prying up on an edge and slowly removing it (it is a thick plastic sticker)....then you pry off the speaker mesh to reveal 12 more long screws which includes 2 long screws at each speaker. I realized this after thinking I was done with the sticker (mentioned before). I was prying around the edge and snapped 2 plastic screw nubs. I also kinda f-d up the edge prying......thought you should know!!!

I own the im600 and I have managed to take it apart far enough to fix it. I saw no screws to open the system, but I saw that the grille was loose, so carefully I took it off using a tweezer with a sharp point (sticking it in the holes is the grille near the edge, using the tweezer as a lever) after some time the grille was off. After that I could take the speakers out etc. Maybe this could help you. Only thing is that I haven't figured out yet how to open the whole system and exposing the circuitry etc, it stays stuck at the display somehow (if you figure it out, please tell me )

Remove the Grill. Remove all screws, including the speakers'. Then remove the clear plastic over the LCD to reveal more screws.
Then you have it.
