    Hi there,

I hate to ask and don't take it the wrong way, but are you sure that the drive you are using to play your DVD can handle DVD's? If it's only a CD-ROM drive, not a DVD-ROM drive, it won't read the disk.

Let me know the type of drive you have.

    Other useful info:

    • Operating System

    • Media Player version

    • Type of PC

    • Error codes (if any)

    • Does the DVD work in other machines?

    • Anything else that seems pertinent

Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file.

Try using a different player with built-in codecs. Windows Media Player doesn't support a lot of files. I suggest using VLC Player. It's free and plays all files!

I dropped it and now it won't work. It starts but there is a knocking noise and won't select movies or do anything.

Remove media player from CPU ("Add and remove Programs" or "Programs and Features" both under control panel), then Google Windows Media Player, free down, if that doesn't work, its most likely a hardware issue. Hope it works!! :)

Most DVD player can't read open session discs, meaning when you burn your DVD movie there's an option there that when your disc is not full you can still add files on it, it's open session, in your case if you want to play it on dvd player you must select the finalize the disc to close the session and you can play it in any dvd player you want.
