I had this issue 2 days ago. I tried every technically oriented possible solution. However, what actully worked was wiping/cleaning the actual recovery disk. After several attempts at recovering I realized that the error 262 occurs when the optical drive cannot read the information on the cd/dvd. As I stated in the beginning this actually worked. So give it a try. I know it is a no-brainer, but sometimes it is good to go back to the basics.

If no recovery disc, Some newer PC's have the recovery on the hard drive. You can access it at boot up. Before it gets to the windows sign in. I think u need to press F12 as soon as u power on your pc.

My toshiba satellite L455D-S5976 Laptop says A disk read error occurred, how do i fix this, cause i wanna restore to factory settings but i have no disc for the laptop... Please Help!!!!

hi,
that error message is referring to your hard disk. Some of the sectors are corrupted and it might have to do with the part that contains your operating system or boot manger. You're advised to get a new disk, install a fresh copy of your operating system, and recover your files from the other disk by attaching it to the system like an external drive.
hope this helps

MSI Laptop Error- 0xoooooe9 "This error can be caused by unplugging a removeable storage device blah blah blah.... it wont get off the error screen and start windos. What do i do?

Ok, this error has occurred and will continue to occur, because a drive was removed, from the system, before data that was meant to be written/read, to/from the "Drive" was completed.
The only way around this is to reconnect the device so it can Finish what it is doing. If you have been using a USB drive, then you need to reintroduce that back to the system.
Now if you cannot, do this, then I would suggest that you simply perform a system restore. That will hopefully restore you system to where it was BEFORE this all happened.
Before is a a link how to do the system restore.

Wont restore OS from restore disk

Perform recovery using HP recovery manager.i.e. Press F11 during boot up and it will take you to the HP recovery manager.

HP and Compaq Notebook PCs are configured with a recovery manager or recovery media that enables you to repair or reinstall the original operating system. Depending on the model of the notebook PC, there may be a recovery CD or DVD included, or your model may have the Recovery Manager tool to create a personal recovery disc. You can also order a replacement recovery disc from HP.

Also check the below for the error occurs while performing the recovery/restore.
