Small picture in center of screen that is multi colored. As the tv warms up the picture expands and contracts. The picture is fine when the tv warms up. Suddenly last night developed a bow at the top and bottom of screen. Watching Fresh Prince and Uncle Phil had a green ring around the top of his head. I've tried to reline the crosshairs but the bow is to severe. The red is dead on but blue won't move. Any suggestions?

My picture also bows at top and bottom. The colors separate more as you look towards the edge of the screen. The center is not too distorted. I had a repairman tell me to just spend the money on a new TV, 5 years old is old, not worth fixing. I already read your advise on changing coolant/oil and will do that after buying the oil that the "repair" guy said would be hard to find and costly to replace. He claimed that I needed a $315 dollar part from Phillips, but can you determine that with out testing anything? Is there only one part that can cause this issue? He didn't check anything electronic but showed me how the oil on the blue and green tubes was dirty. I am no expert but can follow directions and familiar with higher voltages, I work at Palo Verde Nuclear Gen. Station as an Aux. Operator, so I am accustomed to working around energized components. My set is HD ready, it is 5 years old or there abouts.

If you're not a professional TV repair person, the following information is good only for reference. If still under warranty or if you have no electronic repair experience you should take the set back to the shop or to a repair person. Some of the solutions described below can be dangerous, TV's are very hazardous to service. Even when plugged out, TV's can store very high voltages. You will need to change the Stk convergence amplifier Ic's. You will need to check for the proper Ic, but it might be an Stk 392-110 (Q751&Q752). These Ic's fail sometimes due to lack of heat sink grease, and also because they expend lots of heat. Good luck

The picture is showing a double image and is distored.

The problem you are refering to is more than likely a convergence problem. The convergence circuit in your tv is controlled by an IC (integrated circuit) stk392-110 and it makes the 3 colors (red, blue, green) line up/converge together to create a clear picture. You'll know when this part needs to be replaced because the picture you see is 3d looking and possibly bowed on the top or bottom or on the sides in any or all 3 colors.

Help with RCA projection TV P46812BL (chasis ptk195AA)

You have probably blown one of the convergence ICs. Effectively the easiest thing to do is replacing the whole convergence board, so that no soldering is involved.

Here you can buy a replacement convergence board, just select your model.

Let me know if you need further help.

Screen is bowed on top and bottom.

Projection sets have two very common problems outlined below.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. The TV can also shut down when the convergence starts to fail.

Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith, RCA and others.

You can more info and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from TV Repair Kits using the link at the end of this article.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped or bowed
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Sony kp-53s35 bowed picture on top and bottom

Good day, scotty1980;
Scotty, welcome to 2008. Hold onto your wallet, the has a convergence problem. Which means that the TV's convergence IC's are more than likely bad. The average cost to repair is about $450.00. Unless you are electronically friendly, I would call an authorized service dealer for repair.
Good luck, big IRISH. PS; Hope this was helpful.
