Question about Garmin zumo 550 GPS Receiver
Hi My zumo 500 will not charge on the bike mount. It has power to the terminals but dies not get through to the unit.
Gfjohn, You are incorrect. It does indeed charge via the car and the bike cradle.
The problem you have is that your connectors at the base of the unit have fried and the entire connector block needs to be changed.
My unit was replaced after only 7 months. 6 weeks later and unit #2 has just died on me. Refuses to power up. Back to Garmin once again.

Experience the same problem with my Zumo 550. Told by service advisor @ Radio World that this is a common problem. Unit needs to be charged on the DC charger occasionally. The motorcycle mount and car mounts, I was told, does not charge the battery on these units, but maintains a charged battery.

Have just had the same problem. The unit stopped while on holiday, just when I needed it most. When back home I decided to dismantel the support as it unit worked in the car. I found the ribbon connector had shorted and the copper had gone completely. After inverting it I plugged it back in and bingo, it works. Will not be leaving the support on the bike when I don't need it.
