Acer Aspire L100 desktop with damaged cable between motherboard and DVD drive

I have an Acer Aspire L100 desktop with a damaged cable between the motherboard and DVD drive. Acer won't help me since it is a "vintage" computer to them. The flat cable is marked AWM 2896 80C 30V VW-1. It is 14.9 cm long and 2.3 cm wide. The spacing appears to be .5mm with 45 conductors and the reinforcing tape is applied to opposite sides of the cable. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement cable?

After I read this "solution" I was ready to "kick myself" for failing to consider such a handy source, but when I searched the Radio Shack website I found that they don't offer anything remotely similar to this; so I'm left to wonder what other "radio shack" there might be...

I am fairly sure that my careful description of this unusual cable was not read. Radio Shack does not carry anything like this. I was hoping to be directed to an appropriate place that specializes in "FFC's" as they are called.

I have found my own solution to this. I finally found the appropriate cable via eBay. A firm in Thailand offered exactly the cable I needed. It has now arrived and it works just fine. Since these cables are so thin, I would guess that lots of these get damaged. My advice is to search for "FFC AWM" and keep looking!

I reset my surge protector and the computer wont power up. i think i need a new power supply. the power cord is working fine. Please let me know where i can find a power supply for the aspire...

The Acer Aspire L100 is a desktop computer powered by a special DC adapter and power cable. The computer's motherboard incorporates a fuse designed to prevent any power surges from damaging the computer. If the fuse burns out due to a power surge or for any other reason, the computer will no longer function. You can check the motherboard fuse for damage yourself, then take it to a trained technician for replacement if needed

Shut down the Acer Aspire L100 and turn the tower around.

Press the "On/Off" button on the front of the tower. If the computer will not boot and the fan does not turn on, the fuse may be burned out.

Unplug the power cord from the rear of the tower

Turn the tower on its side and remove the Phillips-head screws connecting the back panel to the Aspire L100's cabinet.

Pull out the motherboard assembly gently from the back of the cabinet. The internal fuse is located on the motherboard behind the DC power jack, which is to the right of the monitor jack

Let me know if this helped..
