Nikon D50 dropped and not working at all.

Dropped my new D50. No external damage, but LCD display is white when turning camera on and can not shoot at all. Droped body without lens. What I should check first and how.
Thank you for any answer.

I will provide you with the instructions you need a bit later once I have it gathered together. I'm a semi-pro (read semi active anymore, was a photojournalist) myself primarily in outdoor photography and still have an analog Nikon myself. I've taken ribbons in B&W. A close fried of mine has a D50.

Can you wait up to 12 hours or so in order to have you ready to act on Monday?

Hereis what you will need to have on hand and online to have your camera serviced should you need to have it serviced. Me, I'd have it looked after. Dropping a piece of gear such as this camera, I wouldn't take any chances on damage that may not actually manifest itself for many months. Its best to have these things done, hopefully while you are still under warranty.

The following information was taken directly from this web page at Nikon USA.

Contact Nikon tech support at www.nikon.com to see what they recommend. I don't think the warranty covers abuse such as dropping the camera so you may be in for an expensive repair. However, he Nikon techs may be able to suggest something that might help you avoid that expense.

Dropped Nikon Camera Sadness

Hi Al
not sure if i can help here but will try.
Ive not owned the D50 but i have the feeling the highlights function is similar to other cameras in the Nikon range.

On your cursor when viewing an image, just press down on the cursor maybe once or twice to remove the highlights .This is just a pointer for you like the histogram.

Now it seems like you may have damaged the sensor and will not collect enough light.

Try setting the camera to A = aperture priority and take a shot in bright light...no flash.

Are the images still dark ?

If so raise your iso to 800 and shutter speed to 1/250 at F5.6 aperture in mode S =shutter priority and take the shot in bright conditions.

Are the shots still dark ?

Nikon D50 will not show charge

good day

first, you must let your camera dry before attempting to turn it on to avoid short circuiting the boards inside.

since dismantling a camera to make it thoroughly dry needs a technical skill, i suggest that you refer it to a competent technician so s/he can check for the damage that the moisture did. they must let your camera dry before attempting to turn it on again.

check with your neerest Nikon service center.

i hope this will help

Nikon D50 LCD Display does not work

NatD, The D50 and indeed most SLR digital cameras [ I have a D40 ] does not allow you to take pictures using the LCD display ... this is by design, you are meant to use the viewfinder and the image you see through it is straight through the lens via a mirror block [ called a reflex pentamirror or prism ]. When the mirror is down such that you can see the image in the viewfinder it is obscuring the sensor [ the bit that takes the picture ] and when you take a shot the mirror lifts and the picture is recorded. Its this reason that DSLR's dont use the LCD to shoot, however there are a few now available that do let you do this, such as olympus, new panasonic one and higher end Nikon and Canon cameras. Hope this explains it without getting too detailed!
