Loss of power

My tv powers itself off, no power the red light in the right hand corner goes out. I unplug it several times in a row and it comes back on for sometimes hours and sometimes minutes? What to do? TV TURNS ITSELF OFF! I HAVE TO UNPLUG AND REPLUG TO GET IT TO TURN ON AGAIN. SOMETIMES IT TURNS OFF SEVERAL TIMES A NITE. THE CONTROL BUTTONS ON TOP DON'T WORK ANY MORE.

Hi,

Your description could be indicative of a couple of possibilities:

  • heat related, a component is about to fail and its condition is aggravated by heat;
  • heat related, solder connection; a solder joint is loosing its connectivity when heated up normally called a cold solder;
  • loose connection, affected by vibration such as and including sound produced by the speaker.
It is noteworthy that you mentioned that even the standby light is gone. This could further indicate that the problem could most likely be in the power supply section specifically, the AC side and or the standby low voltage supply.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

CHECK IF THE PLUG AND SOCKET ARE LOOSE or produces sparks when you're plugging it!
you should avoid connecting any appliances on a socket that sparks whenever you plug then in. not only that its dangerous but causes too much surge on your appliances resulting to stress on the components on the appliance circuitry.

use different outlet or an extension and try to plug your tv on it!
if this does not help, your problem might be the switch inside loosing its contacts. but its too early to assume this

You have to open this tv and look for the voltage regulator, take a good look at the screw that attach the transistor to the heatsink, it is kind of funny, i fix a few tvs with the same problem that's what causes the power supply to fail

good luck

Unplug the unit and plug it into another wall outlet, its better to use an outlet with surge protector.
check the wire connections, and also the tv plug for any torn or damaged on the wire.

let me know, & keep us more updated.

Why don't you try a different wall socket, might be this one is causing the issue.

Sounds like you are living with an early stage failure from an internal component on the system board. How old is the unit, and do you wish to dig deeper into this, or have a certified tech handle it?

Fault to the main power supply regulator section. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts.
http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

HI:
This is an indication that the unit is going into shutdown mode, may be due to a leaky capacitor on the power supply circuit or in the HighVoltae area. This is also an indication of cold solder joints that may be intermittent. Check or have the unit check by a technician for bad or poor solder connections around the flyback area of the unit.

The television shuts itself off and the light blinks in the front to protect itself when something is wrong with it. It will come back on a few times when unplugging and replugging but by doing that and not getting repairs done it has gone into a coma and will most likely not turn on again until it has been serviced. You can try leaving it unplugged for several days to see if you can get it to come back on.

TV turns off

Sounds like a bad solder connection on power supply board. Remove the back, turn on the set,using the handle of a screwdriver tap the power supply board and see if it shuts down. The power board is the one attached to the power cord. If it does shut down, UNPLUG the set, remove the power supply, inspect the bottom of the board and look at all solder connections with a magnifing glass. Look for any dark rings around solder connections, and resolder with fluxed 60/40 solder. tonyfalcione@msn.com

I had a Similar problem where I would turn the tv on and the green light would come on and then the red would follow and blink 7 times. I tried unplugging it and then then replugging it back and it would still do the same. What I did last night was that I unplugged it and then replugged it back, when I saw the green light, I would unplug it again, till the light went out and replugged it, I did that 3 times in a row, and waiting and it came back on. Hope that works. I still don't know what caused the problem to begin with..
