I have the same problem from the same model. There is no sound at all, not even from the internal speakers. I've hooked up surround sound and that gets nothing either. Just got the TV 3 days ago. I tried to watch a blu-ray movie and the picture comes up fine but there is no sound! Very frustrating. Anyone have suggestions?

I just got the vizio 32" 1080p, connected to my cable box, using HDMI-1. I can not get sound to come out of the internal speakers.

I have a BRAND spanking new (1 month old) VIZIO 32"

Never had a problem with it before.  When I switched it to play a DVD as I normally have done.

Now when I switched back to cable/TV mode..I get NO sound.

I have tried EVERY visible button on three remotes(TV, cable, DVD)
and I can't get TV to be heard!

    it's frustrating

I have even tried power buttons
    on all three remotes...still nothing!

I had the same problem. I could get an analog audio signal but no digitial signal. My problem was with the cable box setting. I have Cox Cable. With the Cable remote I went to settings/settings/Audio out and selected HDMI. Worked like a charm

Select the input on the Television that you want to use. Say if it is a DVD player you want to connect your cables to the output of the DVD player and then to the input of TV. If it is a cable box then connect to the coaxial input of TV. Use the TV remote control to select input that you want to view on TV. Such as Video 1, Video 2...Component 1...etc. Good luck

42" vizio vw42l - no picture or sound

If the backlights for the screen do come on and you also have 12v and 5v feed the main board then it does sound like the mainboard will need to be replaced.

I have a Vizio SV420XVT. There is a green line from top to bottom on the right side of screen. Help me fix this, just went out of warranty

A single line out means a bad LCD panel..The cost for parts will exceed the cost of replacing the TV...

No Sound!

This happened to a client of mine coincidently the morning of the DTV change. Try checking the Menu and see if the Speakers are turned On or Off. They can do this for no reason.

You have to be in 'TV' mode to access the parental settings option. Not sure why. When it asks for the code it's 0000

Vizio sv420xvt pip

You have to go into the "Parental" settings and change the "Rating Enable" setting to off. Default password is 0000. The PIP will not work if your second source is fed into one of the AV inputs. It must be a composite or digital input. You should see the PIP menus once you change the Parental setting even if there is no other source turned on. This info is not in the book - had to call tech support.

Vizio GV42L LCD TV screen black when turn TV on first time

If you are using a set top box this might be caused by turnig the box on at the same tie as you turn the tv on or slightly after you turn the tv on.  If you are using compnent or HDMI inputs the set needs to see the signal as it is turned on to know what formt the signal is in.
