My machine is on a Grace Frame and does the same thing. I have tried everything posted on this site to rectify without success. Needle, tension, bobbin, frame take up rails height. My biggest frustration is all these skipped stitches.

Try practicing on a test piece before moving on to the quilt. Batik fabric is beautiful! I would check the thread size and needle. I tried quilting with invisible thread and had the same problem. The minute I changed to 50 wt.thread and a new needle the problem disappeared. I've found that 40 or 50 wt. thread works best on my Janome.

Janome 1600P skipped stitches

Normal top tension is 3-4; normal bobbin tension (iirc) is 35 grams.
I'm betting, though, that a new needle, right way around and the correct size, would solve your skipping problems.

Trying to quilt on my Hinterberg. First the thread kept breaking. Made some tension adjustments, now I am skipping stitches

possible problems
1) too thick for the feed dog to move the fabric forward need; lighter tension
2) are the upper and lower threads the same kind of thread?
3) is the thread feeding properly from above? sometimes the spool can snag the thread causing the tension to jump and skip stitches

I have a Janome 1600P DBX. The needle is installed correctly but the thread on top keeps breaking or skipping stitchings while free motion quilting? the quilt shop says it is not out of time. I have...

Is it a new needle? a dull needle or one with a burr on it can cause those problems that you mention. The kind of needle you use is also very important. I like to use a 70/10 or 80/12 jeans needle depending on how thick the thread is.

As others have written, my upper thread shreds and if I loosen the tension, I get skipped stitches. When not quilting, she runs just fine HELP Ann Marie

change the needle
rethread the machine
some needles & thread are not compatable-try this

Cut 6-8 inch piece of thread of the spool you are going to use for your project
Take the needle you are going to use for the project
& insert the thread thru the eye of the needle
& lift one end of the thread to a 45 degree angle
& if the needle is the right size for the thread it will slide down the thread
But if the needle hangs on the thread you need one size larger needle for the thread

check to make sure there are no burrs on any of the thread guides

try a 3 or 4 top thread tension

Feed Dogs on Janome 1600P

I recently purchased a Janome 1600P-DB and in order to do free motion quilting I had to cover the feed dogs with an index card. I also cut a small section out of the card to allow for the thread and needle to move freely. Standard tape was used.

Janome 1600P DB Stitch length

The machine is skipping stitches and is probably out of time. Change the needle, rethread the machine and try it again. If it still skips stitches, try lowering the needle by about 1/16 inch and see if it works better. If the timing is off you should take it to a technician for a complete service.

Skipped stitches

You will need to take your machine to a dealer and have it adjusted. Machines should be cleaned and serviced at least once a year. Needles should be replaced when dull. Skipping stitches can also be from using the wrong kind of needle. When quilting on cotton, use sharp needles, when sewing on knits use a ball needle. You can use a universal needle but they aren't perfect and will cause skipping on some fabrics.
