Electrolux american fridge freezer cooling problem

There is a defrost timer on the unit. It is supposed to come on and melt the ice that forms on the coils in the evaporator. IF you get a lot of ice built up or something is wrong with the timer, it wont melt the ice or it wont come back on to cool the unit.

On my Maytag side by side, stainless steel fridge, Model #: MSD2651KES. The freezer works perfectly, but the fridge will not get cold, but if you open the freezer it will start sending cold air to the...

Its defrost problem.--------- When you open the freezer door, then ice starts getting defrosted, because outside temperature is warm and due to that inside ice gets bit melted.--------- -------------- The working procedure of this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the fridge section and the fridge section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the section, in that section the damper is located. ----------- The damper is operated by a motor. Its a complete damper assembly with motor included in it.--The damper has door.Which closes and open with the help of motor. In your case the damper door is blocked by ice, because your refrigerator is not defrosting. But when you open the freezer door, the inside ice gets bit warm and it starts melting and this lets the fridge section get cool.------------------- In this case you will have to manually defrost the ice and inspect, if the problem solves. For manual defrost procedure, click the link below:-------- Click this below for more detail:--- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/06/refrigerator-is-not-cooling-properly.html ----------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

My fridge is leaking inside. I have a top freezer model and the leaking is happening in the lower fridge compartment in the rear, from above.

The defrost problem. The unit is not defrosting on time.--------

. First try manual defrost reset procedure. The procedure is as follows: ----

First unplug the unit from main power outlet. Then empty whole unit completely. Then keep both the doors open. Wait for 24 hours. All the ice collected on the coils and in the freezer section will get melted. Clean the water from the sections. Then Connect the power cord of the unit to main power outlet after 24 hours/.Then set the temperature to normal in both fridge and freezer section. It will take near to 4 hours to get run in its proper cooling cycle. Then check, if the problem returns again. Then its defrost board problem. -------------

If it's again building up ice that means the unit is not defrosting. It's starting the cooling procedure, and then while defrosting, it's not working. The defrost assembly consists of three main parts. The defrost thermostat, the defrost heater and defrost board. Any of the one is not functioning. When thermostat sense the maximum cooling, it triggers the defrost heater to start heating and this defrosts the ice collected on the coils and the system works. Both thermostat and heater are controlled by defrost board. First the thermostat and defrost heater to be checked, if both check ok by meter and visually, then its defrost board causing the problem. You can get required parts from from online sites like: --- www.repairclinic.com or from searspartsdirect online site. --------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Hi,

It may be leaking but I think more likely is that you have a problem with the defrost system and it is not defrosting properly... that can give the same symptoms as a low charge or leak condition...

Freezer goes through a cycle and get warm. The ice will start melting and create a mess when the freezer start to cool agian. Temperture in frig and freezer does not hold cool.

Unplug, empty, clean and let set for 24 hours to defrost the cooling coil that is froze solid overwhelming the heater and not letting it work. if the air can't circulate it will not cool. Check door gasket, or tell kids to stop holding the door open as this will cause it to frost up and cause the problem you're having.. Trust me, It works.

LG Bottom Freezer Frost Issue

It sounds like your defrost controller has gone bad. I have an LFC25760 and had ice build up in the bottom of the freezer such that water would start leaking onto the floor. The ice build up in the bottom of the freezer was due to a failing/bad defrost controller. Behind the back white wall in the freezer compartment exists the cooling fins along with a heating element underneath. Due to moisture that comes into the freezer from opening it, frost/ice builds up on the cooling fins. Thus the defrost controller turns on the heating element to melt the ice/frost off of the fins which then drips into a metal pan which channels the water to a drain hole which drops into the drip pan underneath the fridge next to the fan. The problem is that the defrost controller doesn't keep the heating element on long enough or the cooling cycle comes on too soon thereby freezing the water and plugging up the drain. I had my defrost controller replaced (just outside the warranty period!) and it worked for about 1-month and then same thing happened again. Instead of paying for another defrost controller that would probably not work 100% my serviceman used the old paper-clip trick. He took a paper clip, stretched it out and then wrapped one end around the heating element and placed the other end into the drain hole. Thus when the heating element comes on the paper clip keeps the drain hole warm/hot and prevents the water from freezing. It has been 9 months since this fix and I haven't had any ice pooling in bottom of the freezer.

I have LG French Door Refrigerator Model LFC25760SB. I have the ice build up problem on the floor of the freezer. Is there a way I can only turn off the Freezer so that it can thaw to resolve the problem?...

George,
The short answer to your question is no. It sounds like you are having the same problem I had almost 1 year ago. The defrost controller in your fridge has gone bad. I have an LFC25760 and had ice buildup in the bottom of the freezer such that water would start leaking onto the floor. The ice buildup in the bottom of the freezer was due to a failing/bad defrost controller. The problem is that the defrost controller doesn't keep the heating element on long enough or the cooling cycle comes on too soon thereby freezing the water and plugging up the drain, which then causes the melted ice on subsequent defrost cycles to overflow the drip pan and flow into the bottom of the freezer and then eventually onto the floor when the bottom is full of ice.
When I had the problem and started diagnosing it I opened up the freezer, pulled out the racks, draws, and eventually the door. Then I removed the ice maker and then a few screws and carefully removed the back white wall panel disconnecting the fan and any other electrical connections. Behind the panel you will see the cooling coil/fins, the heating element, the drip pan, and drain hole. Most likely you will see a sheet of ice everywhere. The best way to remove the ice is to boil a bunch of water in a tea kettle and slowly pour it on the ice to get it to melt so that you can start breaking out the pieces. Have a sponge and bucket ready to remove the water as the ice starts to melt. Eventually you should get all of the ice removed and get the drain hole unplugged. After all the ice is removed, you still need to fix the real problem by replacing the defrost controller, using the paper clip trick, or both.

Good-luck.

Ice build up in bottom of freezer

Check the ice maker. sometimes they get cracked a will leak water into the freezer compartment. Also check the ice maker fill tube for leaks or someone could have spilled something. Although this is tipical of a clogged drain. What happens is when the fridge go into derfost, it will melt all the frost that is on the evaporator, turning it into water. The water drains down to a trough under the evaporator and down a drain hole in the trough ( this trough is behind the evaporator cover ) Removing the melted frost from the freezer. If that drain is clogged, the water cannot leave the freezer. Then when the fridge starts back up ,it will freez the water that was not drained. After repeated defrosting the water will fill this trough and run off into the bottom of the freezer to be frozzen when the fridge starts to cool again.

Freezer defrost all. RS2556

The most likely is that the door was not closed properly, this is very common on this model, what happens is that the door closes against the freezer contens and therefore appears closed, this allows warm air into the unit which starts to melt the ice, if this should happen again it is a good idea to completely defrost overnight with the doors open and then re start the next morning as ice often builds up behind the rear panel.
