green/black = (could this be green / violet?) than it is 12v constant
blue/red = illumination
orange/green = left front (+)
white/green = right front (-)
blue/white = left front (-)
brown/yellow = left rear (tan / yellow) (-)
green/orange = right front (+)

I am replacing the radio in my '97 chev silverado truck with a after market radio. It comes with a different wiring plug with 12 wires and the present one has 15 and basically the color coded wires do not...

easy fix is to go to a car audio retailer such as best buy an pick up a wire harness adaptor they generally cost 10 to 15 bucks this will save you the hassle of tracing down the wires however general wires are red-power black-ground blue remote amp turn on eight of the wires are for the front and rear speakers thier colors are paired an example would be solid green and then green with a black line these two wires are for one speaker +/- connections you can connect on speaker one at a time and then use the balance and fader control on the radio to check which wire are for front/rear and left/right speakers the factory radio has extra wires which usally control power antena, and dimmer switch for when you turn the headlights on

well, if there is a store around you that sells radios, go there, or go online, and buy a harness that plugs into the back of the radio to a universal plug and play harness, then buy another harness that goes to the stock harness in your car with the other end being the plug and play harness as well, and problem solved. if your car no longer has the stock harness, its just matching the wire colors. yellow i believe is 12v power supply, black is ground, and red is the ignition/accessory. the rest are all pretty much just speaker wires. there should be all of those right in the dash where the old radio is coming out of.

I hav a 95 berrta and im tying to put a head unit

Hello chrisuftring,

Here's a link to the wiring color code for the '95 Chevy Beretta.

You'll need to match the function of each wire from your head unit and the color code for that would be in your manual. Most aftermarket units are somewhat standard as far as power, accessory, ground, and speaker connections are concerned. But the wiring colors may be different for such leads as remote, power antenna, illumination, dimmer, and muting.

An Alpine head unit has the following wiring colors:
Blue - Power Antenna
Blue/White - Remote
Pink/Black - Audio Interrupt (muting)
Orange - Illumination
Red- Switched 12V+
Yellow - Constant 12V+
Black - Ground
Gray - RF Speaker (+)
Gray/Black - RF Speaker (-)
White - LF Speaker (+)
White/Black LF Speaker (-)
Violet - RR Speaker (+)
Violet/Black RR Speaker (-)
Green - LR Speaker (+)
Green/Black - LR Speaker (-)

With this head unit, you would wire Yellow to Orange, Red to Yellow, Black to Black, Orange to Gray, Blue to Pink, Gray to Light Green, Gray/Black to Dark Green, White to Tan, White/Black to Gray, Violet to Dark Blue, Violet/Black to Light Blue, Green to Brown, and Green/Black to Yellow.

Note that there are 2 "yellow" wires in your vehicle color code. You'll have to test them to determine which one is the accessory wire and which one goes to the left rear speaker. Using a 12V "test light" is the simplest. Connect one side of the light to ground. With the ignition ON probe the yellow wires. One of them should light the tester, the other one won't. Verify that the light goes out when the ignition is OFF and your have separated the redundant "yellows". The one that lit the tester is your 12V+ switched wire and the other one goes to the left rear speaker.

Hope this helps.

Suburu radio wire harness. trying to match up with a new soni deck

Hello uze7, Here is the wiring match up for a 2009 Subaru Forester using the Metra 70-7552 wiring harness: NOTE: The actual harness will be listed as a Nissan harness, but has been used by Subaru since 2007. Also, I'm assuming that your Sony deck uses the standard color code. If not, you should have a manual that lists the function along with the colors. Match the wiring by function, not by color (although the colors may be the same). 2009 Subaru Forester Radio Wiring Color Code: Battery BLUE/RED (+) RADIO HARNESS Accessory YELLOW/RED (+) RADIO HARNESS Ground BLACK (-) RADIO HARNESS Illumination VIOLET (+) RADIO HARNESS Dimmer BLACK/WHITE (-) RADIO HARNESS Power Antenna YELLOW/BLACK (+) RADIO HARNESS LF Speaker (+) BROWN LF Speaker (-) BROWN/WHITE RF Speaker (+) BLUE/WHITE RF Speaker (-) BLUE/YELLOW LR Speaker (+) WHITE/BLACK LR Speaker (-) RED/YELLOW RR Speaker (+) GRAY RR Speaker (-) GRAY/RED Metra Harness: Yellow ? 12V Constant Red ? 12V Accessory Black - Ground Orange ? I was wondering which wires are which to hook up an after market stereo in my 1991 plymouth laser. i need to know what are the power wires and the speaker wires on my stock wire harness.

I don't have the exact wire pinout, but I can offer you a generic method. Usually wires in an automotive wire harness that are Red, are power.
I would suggest you buy a cheap multimeter, (If you don't already have one), and set it to the DC volts-50 volt range. They have multimeter's that are relatively inexpensive. $10 or $12 dollars.

There will be a Red lead to a probe, (Positive), and a Black lead to a probe. (Negative) Hold the Red lead to the red wire. Touch the Black lead to any good ground. Any clean of paint, metal surface on the car. The needle should go up to 12 volts on the DC scale.

Ground wires are generally Black or Green. Should you see a Green wire with a stripe on it, this is not a ground wire.

Wires that are of a solid color and have a stripe on them, are usually speaker wires. They will be in pairs. There should be a wire of a solid color with a stripe on it, and a wire of the same color, but no stripe, to make up one pair. One pair is for one speaker. For example:
Blue color wire with a White stripe, and a solid Blue color wire.

There may be two pairs of wires, or four pairs. Two speakers in front, two speakers in back, for the four pairs of wires.
After you find the power wire, and have it attached to the stereo, plus a ground wire, I suggest you make sure ALL the other wire ends are not touching each other, on the stereo. Put a small piece of Black electrical tape on them.
Take one pair of speaker wires, from the car harness, and attach them to the stereo. Turn the stereo on, and see which speaker wires you have. Move the Front/Back, and Left/Right controls.
Now it's just a matter of finding out the correct hook ups for those wires. Match them up.
