Question about Panasonic DMR-ES10S DVD Recorder

1 Answer

Cannot unlock ratings on my Panasonic DMR-ES20!

I have NEVER locked the ratings on this unit, but now it will not allow me to play commercial DVD's. The ratings setting is at "0," which prevents any DVD from playing. It keeps asking for a password, but I have never put one in since I bought the unit a couple years ago. I have played DVD's on this unit in the past, so my only conclusion is that some power outage may have caused this. I am single, so I know that no one else has messed with the settings on the unit. I tried reseting the unit to factory default settings, but it does not seem to affect the ratings setting. I have tried I don't know how many number combinations, and nothing will work. Any help appreciated!!!

I have the same problem.. kind of. Mine says it's set to 8 (fully unlocked), but it won't play R rated movies! It keeps saying "the disc exceeds the rating limit, would you like to change your rating settings now?" and then i try to use the up/down arrows to change it and it won't let me! I hope someone can help either of us!

Apparently it is caused by power outages.
Here's the fix: Put in DVD mode.
• While the disc tray is open, press and hold [* REC] and [PLAY/x1.3] on the main unit at the same time for 5 or more seconds. Press until you see INIT on front screen of unit.

-continued from previous post--This resets the password to nothing.
Then go back to set the rating to 8 and put in a password when it asks for one. Just make it easy so you can remember it.

Hello
Unplug the DMR from AC mains socket, and replug it after 5 minutes. If this does not help you, make a factory reset to this set. Get into the user manual, and there is proceedings how to do the factory reset.

I just had the same problem, Tried a bunch of things, ended up just unplugging it, letting it sit for a min and plugged it back in...fixed.

Cannot Play Commercially Produced DVDs (Panasonic DMR-ES40V)

Dear FixYa Team,

Thanks for your inquiry re my problem.

Since I posted, I THINK I may have solved my problem. I unplugged the unit for an hour or so, plugged it in again, and it DID play a "commercial" DVD that I had tried earlier. I don't know if this is a permanent solution -- we'll see. If not, I'll take the next step in seeking some help.

Thanks again.
