Not sure what your question is. The LCD panels are part of the optical block, which can only be replaced by returning the unit to Sony (it is not available as a part for replacement)

Blue spots like stars on sony wega

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this is a very common problem on the older sony wega tv's that were rear projection LCD sets. You will see dark bluish corners of the screen. It will get worse and there is no cheap way to fix it. All of these sets have this disease. In some rare cases Sony will repair out of warranty. You probably noticed this soon after you replaced the lamp on your TV. Some of the replacement lamps burn hotter than intended and start melting the glue that holds the light tunnel and LCD panels together to the light engine. In order to fix, you would have to replace the entire light engine assembly.

How do you manually set the convergence on a Sony KDF-60XS955

lcd projection sets don't need a flash focus ...there is no convergence alignment. replacing the optical block should be all you need to do. the block contains the lcd panels with the picture already aligned.

Problem: LCD Optical block has UV damage and needs replaced. PN - A-1084-658-A, $700 w/ $1000 core charge.

Cost: parts + about 1 hour labor + in-home visit fee = about $2000.

Not good news. This is the fate of ALL rear projection LCD TVs that use mercury vapor lamps. The UV exposure to the LCD panels damages them over time. Typically >6000 hours of use, this will begin to surface. I hope this was of some assistance.

I replaced the lamp. now I have discoloration, Red on top and blue on the bottom

Your TV is an LCD rear projection type which requires a Mercury Vapor lamp. Mercury Vapor lamps emit UV light which is damaging to many materials. The discoloration you are seeing on the screen is the UV damage that has resulted over time to the LCD panels within the “Optical Block” (aka projector) of the TV. This discoloration has been creeping up on you for sometime, it just wasn’t as noticeable until you changed the lamp. Once you installed the new lamp, the UV light is bad at full force and the damage progresses at a quicker pace, due to the already weakened state of the LCD panels. Additionally, the picture is now brighter, exposing the damage for you to clearly see. The only fix for this problem is to replaced the Optical Block… an expensive repair. Although this is not good news, I hope this helps you understand the cause & solution and was of some assistance.

Sony wega kdp-51ws655...no sound, only snow outlined with a blue hue showing on screen. No other settings work besides the on/off buttons on TV and remote.

Hi, Sorry to say you need a new light engine"optic block" Too costly to replace. Caused by poor air circulation/heat. Due to dust on the vents/or smoking in the house.Cloges the filtures and causes it to overheat, burning the film on the LCD panels. usualy the blue and the green. Part number A-1084-660-A Costs $552.39 and a $1060.00 core.It will get worse,to prolong it clean all the vents w/caned air and blow out the dust. You may want to look into another TV. Samsung LCD/led backlight TV's Great for the price. LG, or Panasonic. Sony is to costly to repair. BUY A EXT.WARENTY. They all break. New technology. Still has bugs. Todd toddthetvmd@yahoo.com

Tv cuts on for a few seconds and right back off on its own

We had a Sony LCD burn out and display the exact same behavior. You have to isolate if your cable box/pc is even involved or if it's a power supply/backlit bulb issue or similar.

The way you test a Sony is to disconnect ALL cables except the power, power the monitor up and hit the Menu button to display the test pattern (it's a small box with some color bars with NO SIGNAL on the bottom since there are no cables connected). After a few seconds, this test pattern would also go black even though the green light on the LCD was on. So it was the LCD itself that was blown and nothing to do with the PC.

I'd see if your LCD has some sort of test pattern or test mode you can access in the menu's with no cables hooked up to see if it can hold that pattern for more than a few seconds before going blank. If not, it would be indicative of a burned-out or blown LCD rather than the box that is supplying the signal.

Blue haze from lower left slowly starting to consume the screen

The blue LCD panel in the light engine is going bad. The only fix is to replace the light engine. This is an extremely expensive repair. However, Sony has extended the warranty on the light engine only on many of these models. Find a local Sony authorized service center and give them your model and serial number to see if yours qualifies for the warranty.

Sony KDF-42WE655 (LCD 42 inch)

I have the exact same problem with my 42" LCD HDTV. When I called Sony "customer support" they told me NOTHING. However, I began researching this issue and found out that Sony knows all about this problem. It's a part called the "Optical Block" and THEY are supposed to reimburse you for the repair! The claim form is on the Sony Website. Here's the link: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-home.pl?mdl=KF42WE610&LOC=3 Look inside the yellow box on the right and click on: Additional service coverage information for your TV (scribble / line pattern on screen) Hope this helps you!!
