Question about KitchenAid 24 in. KUDS25 Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

Kitchen Aid dishwasher Child lock light on and dishwasher will not start.

The child lock light on our Kitchen Aid dishwasher KUDS25SHBS1 dishwasher came on without our setting the child lock. We tried holding the Energy Saver Dry button down for more than 5 seconds to turn it off. No success. The dishwasher will not start.

When you say "user interface", do you mean the part of the control panel that has all the buttons on the front? If so, can it be repaired or should it be replaced? It also seems there may be another part involved. I don't know what it's called, but it is a circuit board located inside the door behind the control panel. How can I tell which part is the problem? Or possibly both? I'd hate to buy one part and then discover it's the other part. Either part must cost over $100 by itself.

    That fixed it! Thanks arborcass.
We just got the part today from AppliancePartsPros.com and installed it in a few minutes. We're washing that last load from a few week ago right now. Reasonable price for the control panel (part # 9744112) $150.

Same problem -- child lock appeared on - will not turn off. Yuck.

  • colinmic Dec 01, 2008

Yes same problem. So it sounds like the keypad has to be replaced - is that what solved the other problems? Roughly what does this cost and can I do it myself?

    Same problem.

If your unable to unlock the "childlock" by holding down the button, then it woud seem that theres a problem with the user interface itself

i would say in my experience it has been an issue with the key pad itself, i look up your model and you would need to replace the entire console with active overlay(keypad)part number 9744112 ( if the model number is correct and retails for nearly $200

My top drawer of kitchenaid dishwasher lock light is on. I can't get it off?

It's a child lock. To turn off the child lock on a Kitchen Aid dishwasher, locate the Energy Saver/Dry button. Press and hold this button for at least four seconds.

The child lock light flash

Hello. Your Kitchenaid unit has the child-lock enabled. Look for a button(or set of buttons) that has a small lock symbol beneath or the word "lock". On most models, you have to push and hold the button(s) until the lock light goes out(usually about 3-5 seconds). That should disable the lock and the unit should operate normally. I hope this helps you!

'low rinse' stuck on with full rinse aid, can't start wash cycle

Actually, if you look closely at that Low Rinse button or emblem, you will see a little lock symbol above the words "Low Rinse", and I'll bet THAT light is the one that is on. Basically, you have the control lock (or child-lock) turned on. To turn it off, you have to press and hold the Sanitize button for 3 to 5 seconds until that light goes off. Now your dishwasher will work!

How to unlock the child lock

Most of the dishwasher in this series have an energy saver dry button. Hold this button in for four seconds and it should unlock the child safety lock. Does not work, try again for 30 seconds. Does not work. We have problem. If your model does not have an energy safer button, then type in the model number and you should be able to find the manual online and open the same to find out how to unlock the child safety lock. If all fails then you need an Electronic control board assembly, about $86 for your model, plus shipping from repair clinic.com. If you are at all handy, this is easy repair. Make sure you turn off the breaker or remove the fuse before you attempt any repairs.
