I did not have any CD or DVD come with the system, it was just the standard tower. Where do I go about getting one from? Thanks.

Did your Apple arrive with the installation disks? If so I would erase the hard disk and reinstall the software.

Also- which apple computer did you buy?

Once you get a new OS DVD you will be able to fix the problem.
Restart on the DVD
From the Utilities menu, select "Reset Password". Once you have reset the password go back to the OS install window.
In the OS install window click on the Customize button and select Archive and Install.

This will put a clean copy of the operating system on your computer and give you access to the Administrative Password.

It's over for the system, you will have to re-install it from a dvd

You can buy one on the apple store, but the osX DVDs are not locked(no registration), so you can use a friend's DVD. It's illegal because the system was already installed on your computer

Am trying to change password, but it will not accept correct password. How can get another start-up disc? Don't have original.

You can get them on Ebay, they are quite common. Alternatively, you may be able to take it to an Apple Store, who should be able to help you out.
Hope that helps!

Changing Root/Administrator password for eMac G4...

Strong Warning: You should only enable root if you really really need it, really know what it's for, and realize the security implications of enabling root! You can do everything you need to do with "su do", so root is really not needed ... with that said, here's how to enable it - please understand what you're doing and why before you do this!

The "root" user (also known as the superuser) is the most powerful UNIX account. The root account can do anything to any file or folder, anywhere on the system. For that reason, it's considered quite dangerous, and only needs to be used (occasionally) by advanced users.

Because of the dangers of operating as root, Apple has chosen to hide the root account in OS X Final. However, there are a number of ways to enable it. The easiest is to boot off the install CD, and look under the Install menu for the "Password Reset" option. You can use this to change your own password if you forget it, and to enable the root account. This utility will not run if you copy it to your hard drive! It only works when booting from the CD.

Master password is lost on mac mini

You should read the Apple Support article on changing/creating a password for the admin account. From there you can control the other accounts. BTW a common mistake is to have the Caps Lock key on. -Ken

Sekondhand G4,no disc,no password.

Try hitting the ENTER key when prompted for the password. Let us assume the seller was kind enough to remove the password before selling the Mac. If you are not in luck, try borrowing a System disk from a friend (most Mac Users are really friendly), and maybe they offer you a copy of the CD/DVD. After booting from the CD, you can reset the password easily.

That the earlier owner didn't know his own password is a bit suspicious. It sounds as if you do need to reformat. I suggest finding a OS system, maybe on Ebay or Craigs List.
