We installed a new PTV small signal board to solve a power problem, but we have no blue convergence. The blue cross simply is not there although the blue tube is lit. It is not focusing. When I look into the blue CRT it is just diffuse blue light. We replaced the IC7003 per Philips recommendation but that did not help. We crossed over the focus leads from another color but no change to blue. Do you have a suggestion?

See if the leads from the green crt Pcb on the green crt is long enough to reach the blue crt. If you hook up the working green circuit to the blue tube and it still dosent light up On the screen, then you know the tube is bad. Just a quick way to test crt's,. If it does light up then you have to trouble shoot the matrix for the blue tube. The drive maynot be vorrct the g2 voltage maybe not enough so then the screen block could be bad. I just wanna warn you against the very very high voltage inside these sets even when there not plugged in. BE CAREFULL PLEASE

Reheat all the surface mount solder points on the Small Signal Board. Then realign the set including convergence menu. To enter service mode: power off the set for 10 sec, then hold down Vol- and Ch- buttons for 10 sec. See this link: Alignment Procedure (pdf)

Unfortunately you will have to replace the convergence board in this unit. it has failed. this particular board regulates the alignment procedure that you are having issues with. replacing this board will fix this issue.
HI, normally when this occurs, this will signal a malfunctioning convergence chip that is located o the convergence board. this convergence board controls the calibration attempts when syncing the RGB streams.
Simply replacing the convergence board or chip will fix this issue.
The problem is in the convergence system which can also cause the tv to not power up or intermittently turn on and off. About 50% of them are bad connections on the convergence power pacs. The convergence power pacs are easily located by the large heat syncs associated with them. The digital control board is located very close to the power pacs. Remove the circuit board housing the heat syncs and using high magnification look for rings around the pins of the convergence power pacs on the foil side of the board. Re-soldering up all the cracked solder joints in the convergence system including the digital control board should solve the problem.
If there are no cracked solder joints in the convergence system, or if repairing the connections does not restore the unit, the power pacs will have to be replaced. Ensure that you apply heat sync compound on the backs of power pacs or they won't last.
After replacing the power pacs, check all of the precision resistors for burn marks or detolerancing and replace as necessary. Next, although rare check the fuse links to the power pacs. This should complete the repair process unless there is some other atypical problem which is beyond the scope of this discussion.
1st. Go back over your soldering and make sure you didn't break a trace and joints are solid.
2nd. Make sure you installed the correct value resistors in there places.
3rd. I believe the blue crt is on your right, follow the convergence leads down to the board to the 4pin plug. Go from pin 1 of the plug to pin 11 on each of the IC's ( 1at a time ) with an ohm meter, when you see 0 or just about 0 that will be the blue IC, I have the PTV 915 manual that i'm using. I suspect you will find a mistake along the way. Take your time and double check everything again and let me know. Good Luck!
