Not Draining I pulled the filter cover off and found some glass and plastic in the filter area, cleaned it out and it still will not drain.I don't know if this plays into the problem or not,but I replaced the old garbage disposer with a new one.The first time I used the dishwasher after installing the garbage disposer is when I started having the draining problem.

Dishwasher will not drain. We cannot get the screen out to check for clogs. There is a grey plastic box that prevents the screen from coming out.

Dishwasher not draining issue usually occurs due to kinked drain pipe, clogged drain filter or drain pump. Check the drain hose for any visible clogging, remove if present. If no visible lint is present then remove then turn off the dishwasher and remove the drain hose and check for any visible clogging. If still not visible then the drain filter or drain pump is clogged and you'll need to clean the drain filter and drain pump.
Please note that dishwashers don't drain out the complete water such that heating element doesn't overheat. Hope this helps... Please post back for any further assistance.

Dishwasher will not drain. water stays on the bottom of the unit/

Not knowing what make or model you have I can only give you general advice. As a Maintenance Supervisor for an Apartment complex, I run into this all of the time. You will need to start by cleaning out the filter basket. it is under the plastic grate at the bottom of your dishwasher inside of the unit. There are a couple of things you will need to remove, but it is usually just a matter of a few screws. I find food, broken glass, (Be Careful), plastic wrappers and on and on. With this clogged or any impeded water flow the water will not drain. The other area to check is the airgap located on top of your sink. Pop the top off and carefully remove the plastic insert and see it that is clogged. Unless your pump is broken which is doubtful, these are the only two areas that will keep your dishwasher from draining.

Bosch dishwasher E23 message

E-23 message indicates that that the drain hose or draining of water is not carried out effectively. Remove filter cover at bottom of dishwater. Using a sponge/cloth remove any excess water that may be standing in the drain hole area - be careful that there may be glass/bones/other sharp pieces that may hinder the draining process. Use a torch to see any visisble obstacle-remove obstacle/particle. Run the impeller with your hand to check freedom of movement. The impeller should run smoothly. Remove drain pipe from terminal point and look in to check any visible blockage. Check that there are no kinks. You may have to suction/siphon out water manually (Can be done via mouth but be careful not to **** in any water or debris)- have a bucket nearby to allow water to flow into bucket. Replace hose into drain pipe. Replace filter cover. Mix two/three teaspoons of bicarb and one cup of white vinegar in a plastic container-there will be some fizz- and place in dishwasher. Close door and run the shortest cycle. Remember to apply slight pressure to door when turning machine on for its cycle. Remove pressure when machine begins to work-this is noticeable after a minute. Look at the timer as this is a good indication.

Possible obstruction in drain area

The spray arm will just pull up with a bit of resistance then turn retainer anti-clocwise and pull out filter then check for debris and clean all fine mesh filter screens. But it may be that the debris has got into the pump and caused damage.

Hope this helps.

Water will not drain after cycles are complete

Start with removing the screws in the bottom of the dishwasher and pull out the filter, etc. Clean everything you remove in a sink and soak in white vinegar anything is coated with minerals.
Inspect closely everything you can now see with a flashlight (watch out for broken glass!) Remove any debris found. Reassemble and test if removing any obstructions found.
If problems continue, run a short cycle and listen closely. When the pump should be running, do you hear the sound/hum of the motor turning (but water is not draining?) If yes, replace the pump motor.
If you hear nothing during the cycle when the dishwasher should be draining, the problem is almost certainly a failure of the timer/controller that controls the pump motor.
Good Luck!

Viking dish washer won't drain

Try clearing the air gap (which is the seemingly pointless thing that is near your kitchen faucet.)

1.Take off the shiny metal cover, and you can sometimes twist off the plastic cap, or you may need to use needle nose pliers to push in the tabs that hold it in. You may or may not see debris in the tube that is in the air-gap.

2. Now what you need to do is take a clear glass and put it over the air-gap with part of the glass hanging over the edge of the sink, you may want to put a towel around the other side of the glass to keep the water from going all over the counter, turn the dishwasher off then on again and select "rinse and hold". If there is any thing in the line it will come out.

3.If not you may need to take out the filter in the bottom of the dishwasher and on the left hand side in the sump area there is a small, (usually yellow) cap that covers the drain motor impeller that can usually be pulled towards the center/right by hand, if not with needle nose pliers. You will need to vacuum out the water with a wet/dry vacuum or towels.

If none of this works, let me know and I will go over some more uncommon draining problems.

Standing water after cleaning dishes

Clean out the air gap. Remove decorative cover by pulling up. Remove plastic dome by gripping and moving side to side while pulling it up. When you get the dome off you can see if the air gap is partially blocked.
