Question about FrancisFrancis! X3 Espresso Machine

1 Answer

FrancisFrancisX3 - no power

Out of nowhere, I'm getting no electrical current to the machine - we plugged in and pushed the buttons as usual, and are getting no reaction at all. Did we blow a fuse somehow? Is this fixable? Thanks.

There are 3 thermostats in the unit- one for the water temperature, one for the steam temperature, and one fuse which blows if the unit overheats. The overtemp fuse is a 'fuseable link' that burns out if the boiler gets too hot (maybe 150C). If that fuse is blown, then you probably have other problems, since the unit won't get that hot unless the steam thermostat fails.

Even if the thermostats have failed, you should get the power light when the unit is plugged in, and the pump should work, but the boiler won't heat up. If you get no power at all, then you have a wiring fault somewhere.

The power button doesn't work. How is this fixed?

The power button is directly associated with the main circuit board and any applied voltage or high current can disable it. Generally, disruption is a result of a power surge or outage. If power was out and came back as the brewer was on or plugged into the outlet; excessive current applied to the main board could blow sensitive electronics.

The machine is dead. I keep the machine on all the time, don't really use the on/off button. Went to use it this morning and there are no lights on........nothing! HELP! Love my machine, it is not new...

I am sorry to hear that ! It does not turn off automatically? After two or three hours or so. Well then, is there a valve in the machine that gave up working all the time. Look for one. Make sure that the electricity is working and the plug and the electrical outlet connect. Try plugging it in in another room. Look to see if the wires in the plug are as they should be. Disconnect the electricity for a few minutes connect again and push - on-.

Hello,\r\n I have a Pavoni and when I plug it in the wall socket my fuses blow out from the house. I took the machine to an electrician and he mentions the resistance inside the machine is bad. where can I...

The electrician didn't do anything except confirm that the machine has a fault that is blowing fuses. Resistance is not a part, is an electrical property of the part. Electrical current is the voltage divided by the resistance, so if you don't have enough resistance you get too much current. The fault could be anything from a bad switch to shorted terminals on the heater. Essentially you have to take it apart and check the components. My procedure would be to do a visual inspection first for bad insulation, electrical terminals touching each other or the metal parts of the machine, cracked heater, signs that water is leaking into the circuitry, etc.

If the machine blows the fuse even when it is turned off, the problem is almost certainly the power cord or at the switch. The most likely place for the power cord to fail with a short (other than an improperly installed replacement plug) would be where it goes into the machine. Look closely for cracked or broken insulation both on the inside and the outside of the machine.

After that I would use an ohmmeter to check the electrical resistance of parts. For example, if the coffee pot is rated for 10 Amps, the heater resistance should be 120 Volts / 10 Amps = 12 Ohms. Since your model is rated between 800-1000 Watts, (7.1 - 8.3 Amps), the heater resistance should be at least 14.1 Ohms. The indicator lamp should read "out of range" if it is a neon bulb, but may read several ohms if it is incandescent (the resistance of incandescent bulbs increases as they get hot).

One possible source of the problem is a leaky steam pressure switch. If water is getting into the electrical part of the switch, it could be causing a ground fault.

If the power cord is bad, you can cut off the bad part and rewire with the remainder (if it is still long enough for you), or you can replace it with any 16 gauge power cord of the same style rated for elevated temperature use. A friend went to clean my machine and took the tray out the grinding unit? with the 2 red push buttons on either side became stuck then dropped and is now stuck so I can't get it out and the tray won't go...

Unsure but if you try and get it in a little do you mean the whole thing drppped down or just the very bottom. usually you have to turn the machine of by the machine, not power point first, then it puts the dispenser type thing in location so it can be removed. if you have some how dislodged the tube from the bottom as you didnt turn it of right, up to you but it can be forced back in place just hope you dont damage it trying, i had same issue, and managed to get it back in, then power up machine then turned it of with the machine power button, then turned of power removed and cleaned it. It was hard to get the tube thing back to right place and it was near at breaking point. But all went ok in the end. hope this helps, if you turned of right it should just come out soon as you push in red clips and easily goes back in
