Question about PC Desktops

I have a netgear wireless router and can access the internet from 2 computers on the network. The third computer has a WG111T adaptor which accesses the network but when I try to access the internet I get a limited or no connectivity message and am unable to open any webpages. Any advice appreciated

    The computer is near my desk where another computer is connected to the network so I'm assuming there aren't any interference issues. I spent the afternoon clearing the hard disk of old files before attempting to connect to the network and the driver is the latest downloaded from the Netgear site this morning

    It sounds as though you have done everything right. Some network adaptors are more sensitive to power interference than others though. I had a Sony Vaio for repair recently with the same symptoms. For other reasons, I had to format the disk and reinstall windows. The computer connected immediately after that.



    Have you tried turning everything else off apart from the troublesome computer?

    Limited or no connectivity almost always means no connectivity.

    Three most common reasons are as follows.

    (1) Your third computer is picking up electrical interference from a power cable or power unit. Take a look and see if there are power cables near the computer. If you have a power unit close by, some of these are notorius for radiating interference.



    (2) Your third computer is cluttered with old files and needs a good clearout, or the connection needs to be reconfigured. Try clearing all the junk from you computer. Use "windows cleanup" or similar to rid all the unnecessary garbage. You could also delete your network connection and reconfigure it from scratch.



    (3) The network adaptor driver in your third computer is out of date.You can usually visit the manufacturer's website and update the driver. In fact, most people rarely notice any difference when drivers are updated, but it is worth a try.

Does the 3rd PC have XP on it?
Do a search for WinsockxpFix on Google, download onto a flash drive and run it on your 3rd PC. It will reset your network files on your PC. when it finishes it will ask you to restart the PC. Then you should be able to get on.

Also, did you check if your firewall is blocking the Internet?

Your router allows you to access the Internet.
If you have access to more than one wireless network, you may need to remember multiple passwords.

I have an hp comp that wont connect to my netgear internet access


Define/explain "wont connect".

Are you trying to use an Ethernet cable to connect the two devices? If so, try a different cable, to rule-out a "bad" cable.

Do you have any software like "Norton Internet Security" on the HP? It is notorious for "blocking" attempts to connect to "unknown" networks.

Does your desktop computer have a wireless networking adapter that you are trying to configure/use?

Will any other computer, either via Ethernet cable or wirelessly, connect to the NetGear router? If not, then maybe the NetGear is the problem.

Any error-messages when you try to "connect" ??

Most new routers now a days need to be connected to with a network cable first, login to the router console and setup the wireless and wireless security before they will operate. you will want to login to your routers web interface. looks like this screen and work with the wireless menud5d6fb6.png

the simpilist way to do that is to buy a wireless usb stick 15.00 then you can connect directly to update.and if u dont want kids using it for net pull the usb out .

Internet no longer working, but internal network is fine.


i agree with all the above.. it's definately clear as mud how the network is designed and or funtioning. The machines connected to the wireless d-link router.. are they via cat5 inthe wired ports or wireless ? is the server the machine thats connecting to the switch and wiress router and modem? i'd say reset all switches modems routers and machines.. shut them all down.. then fire the cable modem, then the wireless router then the desktop switch then the server, the workstations and the one lonely wireless.. run "ipconfig /all" on all machines and if they aren't all sharing common ips and access, provide the results here for further investigation.

4 steps to set up your home wireless network

Choose your wireless equipment
The first step is to make sure that you have the equipment you need. As you're looking for products in stores or on the Internet, you might notice that you can choose equipment that supports three different wireless networking technologies: 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g. We recommend 802.11g, because it offers excellent performance and is compatible with almost everything.
Shopping list
• Broadband Internet connection
• Wireless router
• A computer with built-in wireless networking support or a wireless network adapter

A wireless router
The router converts the signals coming across your Internet connection into a wireless broadcast, sort of like a cordless phone base station. Be sure to get a wireless router, and not a wireless access point.
A wireless network adapter
Network adapters wirelessly connect your computer to your wireless router. If you have a newer computer you may already have wireless capabilities built in. If this is the case, then you will not need a wireless network adapter. If you need to purchase an adapter for a desktop computer, buy a USB wireless network adapter. If you have a laptop, buy a PC card-based network adapter. Make sure that you have one adapter for every computer on your network.
Note: To make setup easy, choose a network adapter made by the same vendor that made your wireless router. For example, if you find a good price on a Linksys router, choose a Linksys network adapter to go with it. To make shopping even easier, buy a bundle, such as those available from D-Link, Netgear, Linksys, Microsoft, and Buffalo. Connect your wireless router
Since you'll be temporarily disconnected from the Internet, print these instructions before you go any further.
First, locate your cable modem or DSL modem and unplug it to turn it off.
Next, connect your wireless router to your modem. Your modem should stay connected directly to the Internet. Later, after you've hooked everything up, your computer will wirelessly connect to your router, and the router will send communications through your modem to the Internet.

Try to put the Internet cable in the Network slot rather than Wireless one.. it will work fine..

Computer cannot access the internet


Try to disable wireless card on your desktop. With both the wireless and cat-5 socket enabled, "WITHOUT" the proper bridge settings, they will conflict and not be able to read.

Try resetting the modem. It may be the Modem has to re-assign an appropriate ip address to your desktop.
