Can you send and recieve faxes through Majic Jack ...Would you use the cable modem or computer modem to set up...

The reason why your Magic Jack isn't working now could be that Century Link has updated their modem, and the new modem is incompatible with the Magic Jack. Another possibility is that the Magic Jack itself is no longer working.

If I were to troubleshoot this problem, I would first try plugging the Magic Jack into a different modem to see if that works. If the Magic Jack still doesn't work, then I would contact customer support for Magic Jack to see if they can help me troubleshoot the problem.

Setting up your external modem to work with an internet telephone line is simple. Simply put a 2 way splitter into the internet modem telephone jack. Plug your telephone into one input and the external fax modem into the other. Then you can even dial from your computer routine telephone calls too.

HP fax products are designed so that other telephone equipment can be connected on the same line as the fax. The unit must be connected first using a two-conductor fax/phone cable like the one that shipped with the HP product. Using a four-conductor telephone cable may cause problems receiving faxes or calls.

There are two different types of phone cables. There are two-conductor phone cables like what originally shipped with the HP fax product and there are four-conductor cables. HP fax products are designed to work with a two-conductor phone cable. Look at the end of the cable and verify that it has only two copper leads or wires. Replace any four-conductor cables with a two-conductor cable. Only two-conductor phone cables should be used to connect the all-in-one to the phone line.

Step one: Connect the phone line to the fax
The fax will have two or three sockets (or jacks) for phone lines. Some of these may have a removable plastic plug in them. These sockets will be labeled with text, To Wall Jack , or with a graphic of the wall jack. See Figure 1 below.

Plug the two-conductor telephone cable that came with the HP product into the telephone wall jack. Then, plug it into this socket as shown below.




In areas with above ground telephone lines and electrical storms (lightning), it is a good idea to purchase a telephone line surge suppressor and connect it between the telephone wall jack and the fax. This will help prevent damage to the fax from a lightning-caused power surge on the phone line.

Step two: Add other phone-line devices
To connect other telephone devices, use the other socket (or sockets) on the fax. These are identified by text or with a graphic of a telephone and/or computer.

Connect a caller ID unit between the fax and the telephone.
Use the information below that matches the devices you need to connect.

Fax and telephone
Connect a single-line telephone to one of the added sockets on the fax. The telephone will share the same phone line as the fax. See the illustration below.




Fax, answering machine, and telephone
When a telephone answering machine and telephone are connected, connect the answering machine to the fax and then connect the telephone to the answering machine as shown below.




Fax and computer modem
To use a fax and a computer modem on the same phone line, connect the fax to the computer modem. The modem socket on the computer may be labeled Line or Wall jack .

To use a computer modem and a telephone with the fax, connect the computer modem to the fax. Then, connect the telephone into the second phone line connector on the computer modem or the third fax socket (if it is available). You should be able to send and receive faxes with the majic jack.

Correct. Your printer does not have the capability to send a FAX.
Is there a telephone-cable between your printer and the telephone-jack in the wall of your home?
Also, your computer has no add-in FAX modem, or your computer does have a FAX modem that does not have the correct device-drivers installed.

We need to start from the wall jack
check with another phone to see if good

on the side of your fax there are 3 jack inlets EXT., PHONE & LINE

you need to go from the wall jack strite to the Line jack nothing els in front of the fax like a modem. ansering machine Est.

If this does not work dubble check jack phone line. phone cord

If not then you have a bad phone board est. cost $150.00 Installed

Hello sir; For the fax line only have two single lines working in the cable one is in-coming ,another one is out-going, therefore if you can send fax and can not receive, that's means your phone cable or phone jack on the wall have problem, my sugestion, replace phone cable first, if still have problem check the phone jack on the wall.

bad modem board. plug a phone into the ext jack see if you get a dial tone. The modem board can be bad even if it can send but not recieve.

The splitter the technician is referring to goes on the wall jack. One should have come with the "modem" installation package.
Take a regular telephone cord and plug one end into the splitter and the other into the line jack on the Fax/printer.
When your done you should have two phone cords connected to the splitter - one going to the "modem" and the other to the printer.
