Question about Dell INSPIRON 6000 CENTRINO 1.7GHZ,512mb,40GB,DVDRW,XP (086216118098) PC Notebook
A friend of mine brought his laptop to me and I soon discovered that it never completed reinstalling windows. While it boots up it is real slow, so it is apparent that it did not finish installing all the necessary drivers that are needed. I tried to reset the laptop so I can reinstall a fresh copy of Windows Xp Pro by temporarily removing the memory and restarting the computer, now all it does is attempt to power up and then after a few seconds it powers down. Does not appear to start or complete the post operation as the screen stays black. Is there another way I can reset the laptop so I can reinstall windows xp pro?
The laptop won’t POST after removing the memory? Sounds like the memory module (s) need to be reseated again. Removing memory will not reset the laptop. If you want to install a clean Windows XP load, you need to boot from the Windows CD and format the hard drive.
