Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop Won't Boot Up

A friend of mine brought his laptop to me and I soon discovered that it never completed reinstalling windows. While it boots up it is real slow, so it is apparent that it did not finish installing all the necessary drivers that are needed. I tried to reset the laptop so I can reinstall a fresh copy of Windows Xp Pro by temporarily removing the memory and restarting the computer, now all it does is attempt to power up and then after a few seconds it powers down. Does not appear to start or complete the post operation as the screen stays black. Is there another way I can reset the laptop so I can reinstall windows xp pro?

The laptop won’t POST after removing the memory? Sounds like the memory module (s) need to be reseated again. Removing memory will not reset the laptop. If you want to install a clean Windows XP load, you need to boot from the Windows CD and format the hard drive.

Hi, My Name is Henry. I am one of the technicians here.

You need to get the right hard drive for the laptop if you ascertain that is where the problem is.

Also check the book sequence and make sure the 'boot from hard drive' is listed first.

Please do not forget to rate my solutions to you.

Rebooting my Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop

rebooting a laptop means turning it off then on again not to it's original state, your are using a recovery disc which will reformat your drive the reinstall windows, loosing any documents or files you have saved.

The serial or product key code for windows is always on the underside of the laptop

You can also pick up the batteries less expensive than most computer places at batteries plus. And yes it sounds as though it is the batteries charge is getting low, especially if it runs fine when the battery is out and you have it plugged in.

Dell Inspiron 6000 monitor display problem

Well it is most likely a issue with the Video driver as you are able to boot to the safe mode.I would suggest going back to the safe mode and deleting the present driver for the video from the device manager.before you restart the system just download the latest version from the support.dell.com so that you can reinstall it.Also check in the graphic properties which screen is set to be the defuat.Incase still not working i would suggest reinstalling the operating system before replacing any hardware.
