I had this router some years ago. Please, download its user manual from this location, unzip it and read it throughly, and if you still have doubts left afterwards on how to set encryption, please let me know.
To reset your wireless router to the default, hit the the reset button
Whenever you want to configure your network or the DI-514, you can access the Configuration Utility by opening the web-browser and typing in the IP Address of the DI-514. The DI-514 default IP Address 192.168.0.1
·Open the web browser ·Type in the IP Address of the Access Point
Type admin in the User Name field (lower case)
Leave the Password blank
The Setup Wizard page is the first page that appears when logging into the web-based management interface. The Setup Wizard is a utility used to quickly configure the DI-514. It will guide you through four quick and basic steps to help you connect to your ISP. You will be connected to your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and have Internet access within minutes.
Following steps will guide you:- 1)Connect the router to the computer using the ethernet cable. 2)Open the IE and in the address bar type http://192.168.0.1/ and press return. 3)Username and password screen will pop up and the default username will be admin and the default password will be either blank or admin. 4)You will be navigated to the router's web page and on the top you will have different tabs , select home from there and under home tab select DHCP where you will have the access to enter the MAC address.
When you go to your routner and put in username and password, the boxes that are a "lot of stuff" has a tab on the top HOME being one of them, and a tab down the side WIRELESS being one of them. When you click on WIRELESS, you should see a screen that has a box marked Enabled or Disabled. Check ENABLED. Give your SSID a descriptive name like Eagleye and (optionally) turn on WEP. I tend to give all of mine 1011121314 as the 64 bit encryption so I never forget it.
Save your settings and your SSID name should show up on wireless devices. If it doesn't, then click on ADVANCED and PERFORMANCE tabs and make sure the SSID is enabled. Keep in mind that you can also DISABLE SSID and set up all your wireless devices by keying the SSID the same as the one you gave it. Then you don't have to use WEP and it will improve your wirless performance.
Here's a link to the 514 manual if you need to ask other questions. This is for a rev C, but you can step back into the website for an A or B model. Most notably, check out the WEP and SSID FAQ tabs.
The information he gave you was correct for a new DI-514 but if this has already been used it could be that the password was set. To take care of this problem, you can return the router to factory default settings by inserting a paper clip into the reset hole at the back (leave the router plugged in and turned on), hold it for ten seconds and then release. The router should reboot. Try the 192 and admin again.
I think wat ya need to do is completely set it all up again, right from the start.. I enclose a link for a manual & the other one is for the "Driver".
Your "Provider" will have a different setup and address etc... indeed maybe they will have setup software and logon details on their web site, I suggest ya check that.
It seems to me as if ya may indeed be able to use it under Vista.. D-Link look to have released drivers for these router compatible with vista... I "Googled" this ---> d-link di-514 driver vista download
So have a Google and I am sure you will find wat ya looking for... :)
The link below is for the manual and some other stuff...
