Question about Video Cameras

2 Answers

Dcr-trv320e I have this old video camera that I can not play any more as the play button or rewind etc. will not respond. I have precious film that I need to put on a disk of my husband I just recently lost. Is there anyway that I can play the high 8 tapes on an other device please. Thanks Grethe.

Mistersony, you of all people should know better.
Hi8 and regular 8mm tapes will play on some of the Digital8 camcorders.
But be careful, Sony quietly deleted this feature and still advertises it's new Digital8 camcorders as "8mm and Hi8 compatible", giving the consumer the impression they will play back the old tapes (which in the past they did), but in fact it means they will merely record onto them.
Many a consumer has been hoodwinked by this con and are stuck with a camcorder that is useless to them and their old tapes, while Sony claims they did not falsely advertise their product.
Careful research when buying!

Hi 8 tapes will only play on a Hi 8 machine. I would recommend you search for a place that will do the video transfer for you. There are several in my town and likely you could find one on the internet.

Rewind button is stuck

It can definitely be fixed but let's try one thing before forking over few bucks to technician. Assuming it is a SLR camera, When you rewind, hold the rewind knob pushed in and try it. If you have a point and shoot, let me know which model. I'll be ready to assist when you respond either way.-James

Use good quality head cleaning cassette and if the result is same, contact Sony Service Center, they have Lapping Cassette for special head cleaning, yet same result, then video head will be replaced.

Black and white playback with sony handycam dcr-hc20

There is no problem on your camera, DCR-HC19E is PAL system(European system) DCR-HC20 is NTSC(American system). Are you in US or Europe? I think your TV is NTSC, cause the tape recorded on DCR-HC19E you played has no color. To confirm, connect your HC20 to TV in camera mode, not recording yet, just look at the TV as your monitor, If its in color, no problem, just erase the old video recorded on the HC19E, but if its important to you, you can convert it to NTSC using a PC. thanks

Rewind Problem

Wait till night. Go to a room. Draw all the curtains and switch off all lights. Now you have a dark room. Make sure you can't even see your own fingers! Pop the camera film cover. Pull out the film and rewind manually.
