Uninstall the hotkey software from Control Panel (Add/Remove Programs in XP, Programs and Features in Vista, 7)

Alternatively install Startup Control Panel and uncheck the program from startup. The program works great in XP, for Vista and 7 there is more playing around:
  • Download the zip file
  • Click Extract All files
  • Right click on the program
  • Choose Run as Administrator
  • Install the program
  • Open Control Panel and choose Classic View
  • Run Startup
  • Uncheck something in HKLM and it will duplicate
  • Close Startup
  • Wait for Windows to pop up a box
  • Click Reinstall using recommended settings
  • Allow the program to run
  • Now you can remove the programs from startup.

I have to hold down keys for 2-3 seconds to type. How to correct?

It might be due to a service called "ATI Hotkey Poller" running
which is intermittently slowing the keyboard typing down.

To disable it in Windows XP Home:-
Go to Start->>Run->>type "msconfig"->> click the "Services" tab->> uncheck Ati Hotkey Poller->> Then Ok, then Restart computer.

hope this helps

Normal 0 Are you using Windows Vista? If you are then go to Control Panel.
1. Click on PRINTERS.
2. When the Printer Properties come up, CLICK on KEY SETTINGS.

In your case look in the different Key setting drop downs and find which on has the period set and change it or DISABLE it.

Hope this helps. Bud

Hot Keys

Follow this procedure to enable the special buttons or function keys on the computer or keyboard in the Microsoft® Windows® XP operating system.
IMPORTANT:
  • If software has been installed for use with a third-party keyboard or mouse, uninstall the software to ensure there are no conflicts.
  • On AMD™ or Transmeta™ processor-based computers, the function keys are hardware controlled and not controlled by a hot-key utility.
NOTES:
  • The volume button, brightness key, and disc eject button on some computers will not work if the HotKey Utility application is not running.
  • The Magnify button and the Fn keys will not function properly before the operating system has finished starting.
  • The setting may not be saved if the ESC key is used to close the Fn display. Press the ENTER key or allow the Fn display to close automatically to save the setting.
  1. Click the Start button, then click Run .
  2. In the Run window, next to Open , type MSCONFIG .
  3. Press the ENTER key.
  4. In the System Configuration Utility window, click the Startup tab.
  5. On the Startup tab, under Startup Item , ensure that there is a check in the HKserv checkbox. NOTE: If HKserv is missing, reinstall the HotKey Utility application and the Sony Utilities Library.
  6. Click the OK button.
  7. In the System Configuration box, click the restart button.
