Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

Cannot program additional remotes to new door opener

The drive/worm gear somehow got "chewed up", so I replaced the motor unit only. The new unit came with a one function remote, with a door control button. I left the old premium control console from the old unit attached to the wall. The remote that came with the new unit is programmed fine. The problem is with programming the two (2) old 3-function remotes to the new unit. I followed the programming directions for additional remotes and cannot get the two old ones to work. When I press the "LEARN" button, the LED light comes on for approximatey 30 seconds and then goes out. The light doesn't blink, nor does the opener light blink. I even tried to erase all codes and still didn't work.

THe old transmitters have a differnt code...more than likely your new one is a riolling code and the old ones are not. They are not interchangeable.

My interrupter cup keeps flying off on my craftsman garage door opner model 139.53648srt1

This sometimes happens after changing a drive gear. If this is the case follow the instructions below.

You probably did not have the motor shaft pushed all the way back when you tightened the coupler after replacing the worm gear. Loosen that coupler up and from the front of the motor (opposite end in which the coupler is on) push the shaft back as far as it will go. Hold it there while you tighten the coupler back up and then try it.

If you didn't just change the drive gear you will find the motor shaft is moving towards the rear and knocking the interrupter cup off. Replacing the drive gear with the new coupler and washers will cure this problem.

Is the trolley jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor? If so, loosen the chain until the tension is off the trolley and then run the motor until the door is closed. Now locate the up limit on the side of the motor unit and turn this control 2 full turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Tighten the chain.

I had the same problem. In my case the bushing for the main drive gear was worn out. This is just below the sprocket that connects to the chain.
What you should do is remove the chain and see if that sprocket shaft is loose in the bushing. The motor should turn without the chain on.
If this is the case check the plastic gears within the case. If there all chewed up and the bushing is shot you most likely need to replace the unit. If the gear's are still good you can replace the bushing.
I'm not sure how much Sears would charge to rebuild it but it is very possible it would be cheeper then buying a new one

Is there any adjustment for the gear drive sprocket that meshes with the worm drive? my gear is not engaging any more

If your drive gear is not meshing with the worm gear it is because it is worn out. You'll need to replace it post haste. The part number is 41A2817 and is available at Sears or any good door opener service company.

Garage door runs very slowly, doesn't matter if it is activated by remote or by the wall unit. Have lubricated the tracks and new battery in remote

Remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor. Could be going bad.

Garage door motor dead

Keep checking for loose wires. Nothing about changing the gear should cause the motor to stop running. Check the wires on the start capacitor and follow the white wire from the motor and make sure it is connected.

You have to sync the limit switch with the trolly. Take the small white piece off the bottom of the gear and sprocket assembly. Rotate the center screw on the limit switch until it is all the way up. Put the chain back on the sprocket with the trolley in the up position. Put the small white piece on the bottom of the gear and sprocket assembly. Operate the opener with the trolley dissconnected from the door. You will have to adjust the limit screws on the side of the opener accordingly.

Lift master garage door opener. Motor makes noise when switch is hit likes its running but chain/sprocket doesn't move and the door is stuck open. Chain is on sprocket. Not sure if the motor is frozen? ...

I had the same problem. Took the cover off of the opener and found that the gears were stripped on the unit. Motor was fine. You can order gear replacement kit for the unit. They are a plastic type sprocket and worm gears. The kit comes with spindles and all necessary clips. You have to take the unit off the ceiling to replace the gears, but the process if very easy to do. Parts kit about $40 on line, much cheaper than a new door opener. Total process took less than 2 hours, including getting the unit down and back up again.
