sounds like something has got caught in the wheels/roller. Turn unit off, flip it upside down so you can see the bottom of the device and see if you can move wheels forward and backward...if you see something caught on the wheels, try and unroll it in the opposite direction. If the roller is jammed up, you may need to take the 4 screws holding the roller plate and then untangle/clean the roller and re-assemble.

The majority of hoovers do not have reset buttons. Some vacuums that do, have one that only controls the brush roller when they are run by a separate motor. I would really need the machines model number to properly answer your question.

Although they do not have "reset" buttons, most do have thermal resets. If the vacuum motor overheats. Turn off, unplug and wait for 1 hour or more for the thermalfuse to "reset" itself. Also, clean or replace all bags/filters because that's usually the cause of overheat in the first place.

Also, vacuums go dead for a number of electrical reasons. Many of the Hoover uprights have an internal switch in the upper body below the handle that commonly fails and needs replaced.

You may have something simple like a bad plug end piece on the power cord. try it in another socket if it still doesnt work you may have to replace the plug.
The most stressed point on a vacume is on the power plug and cord because it gets pulled and twisted a lot.

If the rotating brush doesn't turn, then it's almost a certianty that the belt (which connects the rotating brush to the motor pulley of the vacuum) is either horribly stretched or just plain broken. Either way, it needs to be replaced. The correct Hoover belt part # for your vacuum is 38528040 (changed from the original part number of 38528027). This is a very common Hoover belt, but would recommend your best source as being a local, independently-owned vacuum dealer dealer (as opposed to a deprtment / big box store, both of which carry very limited belts).

I work for a company and we have bought about 25 Hoover upright vacuums since November of 2008 from HD supply and we are to refer to Hoover for manufacturer’s warranty. We have a vacuum that needs a bag replaced under warranty.

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
I would say you need to call the Hoover manufacturer and they would direct you to a local factory authorized vacuum dealer for the bag replacement – typically the bags and belts are considered wear items and are not covered under the factory warranty but I feel that it is still worth a phone call to see if Hoover Co will replace the bag for you. It will be up to the Hoover Factory Service Center, Question…. Is it for household use or commercial use?
