Question about Toshiba RS-TX20 DVD Recorder

Toshiba RS-TX20 Hi I'm trying to delete everything on my DVD and start again however it is "frozen" and won't go to the next stage. It displays "CLEARING AND DELETING EVERYTHING. THIS MAY TAKE UP TO AN HOUR.".... Well 18 hours later no change. Do you know how to rectify it. Thanks very much. Mike Ficker

    My Toshiba RE-TX20 DVD recorder is stuck still on the same screen. Deleting Everything. This may take up to an hour...I called toshiba and they couldn't assist with the problem. They gave the phone # for their authorized repair place. The screen has been like this for over 3 days now.

Unplug it! this will not hurt the unit , if all electronics was dammaged from loss of power then no one would want to buy any electronics!
the next thing to do is get a cleaning cd that will clean the laser eye. as these collect dust and other stuff. and it is most common for them to get dirty and start messing up. so clean the laser eye first!
then if that don't work then it will have to be cleaned manually
it is froze up and if you leave it like that your going to have more problems then it not erasing disk's!
do not do a firmware update , the disk's that update sometimes are messed up and can ruin the unit
it's not worth it!

If you brake power you may damage irreparably the unit, you will need to call Toshiba tech support by phone.

    If you interrupt power, trying to restart the unit, you can damage the unit irreparably, check the user manual, and call immediately Toshiba customer support number listed.

    Follow instruction from Toshiba Tech support, so that they take responsibility if the unit is damaged during update procedure. They will probably suggest you to start pressing the power button for 5 seconds and to unplug power cord.
    If unit gets damaged, ask a replacement.

    In USA call the number on the owner manual, or call the general Toshiba customer support at (800) 457-7777.

    Well, in this case all you can do is unplug power cord , and pray.
    If the unit does restart just do again software update.
    If the unit does not restart, that means that the firmware is corrupted, and you will need to take it to an authorized toshiba repair service.

see the cause and remedies:
Does not play disc
  1. No disc. - Load a disc into the tray.
  2. Disc has been loaded upside down. Place the disc with the label side up.
  3. Disc region code does not match region code of the player.
  4. Disc type is not the correct type to play.
  5. Disc is damaged or dirty. Clean the disc or try another.
  6. Moisture may be condensed inside the unit. Remove the disc and the leave the power on for one or two hours.
Finally the OPU optical pickup contain lasser beam, NOT are reading the TOC from DISK+ Syscon can be defective, you must go to the repair shop TV for fix it see the diagram attached, is a complex equipment.

I have a Toshiba RS-TX20 TiVo that suddenly stopped reading and writing DVDs or CDs.


hello,
you can solve this by opening the back cover of the DVD player.
first clean the lens with a dry cotton bud to clean the lens , you have to do this with care because the lens is fragile.
secondly, power on the player and check if the lens beam up a red light, if it does not the problem could be from the ribbon cable use to connect the lens to the printed circuit board or the lens may be faulty,replace to confirm the faulty one.

while recording the real time can be showing / remaing time of the event being recorded /timer clock will showcase the speed if enable or alert if there is a problem and if all is well the a red dot should also be showing

Dvd will not eject


Your track is stuck, you need to try and find something thin & lite to slide under your dvd track and kind of push it in an upward direction to eject. This should throw your dvd track back in place.

Intermittantly freezes on playback. Toshiba rs-tx20 dvr


shut down tv/dig box/dvd. unplug and then leave a little (cuppa time)
replug .then start up dig box then tv then dvd.sounds like in need of "reboot"

The tv displays a checkerboard of small pink squares. occasionally the true image from the DVD shows very briefly. the problem occurs with all dvds i have tried


I had the same problem. I unplugged unit overnight and the next morning everything was back to normal. I just did this and not sure how long the fix will last.

D-KR2 writes bad disks


you are having problem with your lens and the microchip.you will need to replace them soon. the malfunction is a warning that a repair will have to take place.the problem is intermittent at this time.soon you will have no function.good luck

System constantly re-booting


While this post is very late to answer this question, here is where I found a solution with the DVD still inside. When I used this solution, the whole system reset and worked.

"I had the exact same problem tonight. I put in a DVD and it locked my Toshiba RS-TX20 up. It simply wouldn't respond to anything but unplugging. Then it went into this infinite loop of trying to power up.

I finally got it to boot:

Hold the eject button on the unit continuously while it boots up (be patient!). It didn't open the tray until a couple minutes into the powering up process. After I took out the disc, it booted up normally at the next try.

I am guessing that there's a very small window during the booting process that the dvd drive isn't locked and you have to push the eject button in that small window to get the tray open. Since we don't know when the drive is unlocked, the best bet is to hold down the eject button continuously.
