Same type of problem, whatever "ring" is around the drum, when you peel back the rubber seal. It's almost feels like hardened cardboard, comes off in pieces into the drum. It appears at one time it was glued to the drum, is this insulation or what? The washer does not display any codes and will work, except for this gunk getting into the drum.

Theres arubber "boot" connecting the tub to the outer wall of the unit. if your seeing "bone colored" plastic rubbing off and onto the soft rubber boot assy, that sounds like the outer tub itself somehow wearing down, , that snot an easy repace ment at all, you would need to replace the entire outer fornt tub.

Kenmore Elite H3 washer's loud in spin cycle & smells burnt.Debris & plastic in well inside washer.Pushed aside rubber ring & saw lg. gap btwn. metal drum & surrounding plastic.Parts needing replace?

It sounds like the drum has broken from the rear mount. This will chew up the outer shell. This is a very labor extensive job. The parts are expensive also. You will probably need a new outer shell and inner drum.

Why is our 2003 Kenmore washer staining our clothes?

You did not specify what the stain actually is(!), so I will guess: grease. Usually from the drum bearing. Not an easy change for a homeowner with out the special tools,

Burnt smell bits of plastic found inside

A WM1814CW does not have a built-in water heater, so I think your
load may have gotten trapped between the spinning tub and plastic
front tub cover..Roll back the gray gasket to expose and check the
plastic ring for signs of 'friction' burn..As long as the splinters are
trimmed away and doesn't leak water you should be OK..Watch your
loads..Don't Overload!

I have a stackable FEx831CSO. The plastic ring that goes around the dryer drum and holds it in place, broke and fell off. The dryer now makes a terrible sound and the drum is slamming around inside. Can...

It can be replaced. Here's a link to your manual for the dryer, which on the 2nd and 3rd pages has a diagram of it and a part number for you...when you have your part number you can order it either directly from Electrolux or find one on Ebay or another online source....if you have a local appliance shop you may be able to get one there as's the link:

Servis M6602W Washing Machine making scratching noise as drum spinning, I believe there is something gone through the holes in the drum and rubbing along the outside. How can I get access to...

There is no easy way to access the space between the inner and outer drum, unless you count cutting a hole in the inner drum and then welding it back up again afterwards. But it's hard to do this without leaving the drum unbalanced and prone to damaging subsequent wash loads. On some machines you can gain a very limited access by removing the drain tube running from the bottom of the drum to the pump. If so then you may be able to use long forceps to remove the item but may have to rotate the drum and tip the machine back and forward as you do so. Not easy when you're beneath the machine, so get strong-armed assistance.

What most often causes this problem is one or more bra underwires and they can be really difficult to fish out again, especially if they get chewed up and bent. Eventually the underwires often get chewed up and are then small enough to pass down to the trap just before the pump, so make sure that you regularly check the trap for debris as it may damage the pump or cause blockages if left unattended. If this has caused your problem then prevention is easy: never machine wash underwired bras.

Good luck, please take a moment to rate my reply.

The drum got loose because the one of the top drum springs got unhooked. The spring holder on the plastic drum cover is broken. It was noticed in time and turned off. So it seems that nothing else is...

will the plastic ring in the second ring move to the other ring . the danger is if you put the spring in the second ring the drum may not be line up straight when you look from the top (the motor may be further back) causing the motor and back to rub on the back plate when loaded might be better to drill new hole ?

Hotpoint wd64 front load washer-dryer filter

if your hotpoint has no obvious filter its likely to be the type that has the filter built into the main exit hose from the drum to the pump. Clearing these is not as easy.Pull machine out and unplug it, on the rear there is a panel at the bottom which when removed you will see the pump where the exit hose attaches. From the pump to the drum is normally a wider black pipe and this contains the filter. removal of the pipe from the bottom of the drum is normally a jubilie clip but some have plastic clips that are easy to break. once you have dropped the pipe from the drum ( water goes everywhere ) you can then remove the white filter assembly which is like a shuttle **** with ping pong ball in it. clean out fully and make sure its all back together as before.

Something rolling inside the Drum

The rear half of the outer tub, with bearing is part # 131525500 and it looks like the back "spider" shaft is not available as a separate part from the inner drum. The "spider" shaft is most likely worn or damaged and in need of replacement also.
Then, there's that strut
Now, two pain in the back side hours of your labor and you've got your washer back, at more than what a new one would cost! Junk it and get a new larger capacity front loader.
Please don't rate this, as anything but the top rating will lower my score. I'm just giving you my honest opinion, that your machine is not economical to repair. I've owned a LG front loader for over 6 years and think they are the best, but there are other good front loaders out there also.

Mouldy mildew smell

I had the same problem and I fixed it fairly easily in about 45 minutes:

The root-cause is the incredibly stupid design of the plastic ring that snaps over the plastic wash tub. It is filled with many nooks and crannies that rarely contact the wash water, thus getting scummed up and moldy. See a picture of the gross mess here:

The fix involves opening the top (easy) and removing the ring (fairly easy) and can be done yourself if you are the least bit handy.

Unplug the unit.

***If you are mold-sensitive, wear gloves and breathing apparatus or have someone do this for you.***

Tape the lid shut so it doesn't flop open when you raise the lid.

Use a putty knife to push into the front seam about 1 1/2 inch from each corner. This unlocks the top and it will open just like the hood on a car. Carefully secure this in the open position and don't let it fall on your head or your hands.

You will see plastic fasteners holding the top ring around the outer plastic wash tub. These will unsnap (you may need a flat-head screwdriver for some of them).

Carefully lift this out and try not to puke when you look at the underside (see photo Take it to a laundry tub or bathtub and thoroughly clean it by scrubbing with hot water, detergent and bleach.

Before replacing the ring, use a thin brush to clean between the upper part of the wash tub and drum---the scum and mold will be in here also.

Replace the ring in the reverse of the above steps.

Prevention: There is none. You will have to do this every 4 to 6 months to prevent mold from infesting all of your clothing, etc.

I'm experimenting with limiting wash load size to "large" and never using "super", reserving the "super" setting for running periodic (hot water + Clorox) to see if it reaches the idiotic upper ring and keeps it clean. I am not hopeful that this will eliminate the need for these overhauls.

P.S.: The person that designed this washer should have all of his/her underwear and bed linens washed in an uncleaned Maytag Atlantis for life.

this is a problem with these machiones. its drum rides on a ball and socket setup. with a plastic ring it rides on to cause the resistance when spinning. also centerd with big springs. its a job to replace . i would get about 200.00 to due.

if you use machine a lot then after another few years same thing again. poor design i think.

good luck.
