Question about Canon ZR25MC Mini DV Digital Camcorder
I have Canon ZR 30Mc mini dv camcorder since last 3 years. Player mode and camera mode all functions are working well. But the problem is that the cassette mechsnism does not go inside with or without cassette. When I close the compartment cover without cassette the cover opens out after 5 seconds. The mechanism does not go inside. Please help me in this matter. Reply soon. Thanks

Try these steps: 1. Open the tape cover fully until it clicks open. 2. Turn the camcorder on to "VCR Mode." 3. With the cover still open and the camera in "VCR mode," take out the battery. 4. Put the battery back in--out should pop your tape. Although this worked for me, I then inserted and used a head cleaner tape which then became stuck as well. Tried the same trick to eject it, and it did come out after several tries. I will take it for a repair estimate before inserting any other tape.

SOURCE: REMOVE THE CASSETTE message
They all use the same transport mechanism, which is flawed. I sent mine back under warranty as this is a well-known issue with certain Canon camcorders from their cheapest ones to their most expensive ones (like the GL2). It is a common error. Do a search on Google for "Canon Remove the cassette" and you'll see lots of entries.

SOURCE: FireWire for camcorder mini dv
Go to this link. Click on "Frequently Asked Questions" and then click on the appropriate link (#4). Basically, once the firewire cable is connected, make sure that the camcorder is in the playback mode, is turned on, and you see "DV IN" on the LCD. If all that is happening, your computer/software should be able to "see" the camcorder and download the video.
