Card installation

1) Turn the computer on. When Windows has loaded all the way, put the Installation (CD) disk in your optical drive. Load the software.

No disk? Go to the Sound Card manufacturers website, and download the software. Now INSTALL it.

If asked to restart your computer -> NO
Close all windows, go back to your desktop screen.
Turn the computer off.

FOLLOWING Anti-Static Precautions, and computer unplugged from power, open the computer case, and physically install the Sound Card.

Close the computer case, do not forget to hook up the audio wires to your sound card.
Plug computer into power, WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on.

2) Doesn't have a sound adapter card, and is just Integrated Audio?
Download AND install the audio drivers from Asus for that motherboard, AND Operating System you are using.
(Win XP and Win 7, are two examples of an O/S)

Need further guidance than this?
Post the Sound Card manufacturer and Model Number.
Also post the model number of the Asus motherboard.

Connected a 1 TB harddrive to one of the sata connectors, but in doesn't show up in disk managment to format

Two things, first on a desktop, make sure the other sata connectors are enabled. Most desktops do not come with the sata inputs enabled, this can be done through the bios. Just hit F2 during the post phase and when the HP splash screen shows. Once there look for the SATA settings.

secondly, if the hard drive has never been installed on a computer it most likely is not "initialized", this has to be done for the hard drive to be seen, formatted etc. on the computer. Western Digital and Seagate have their own software that does this process. Since you cannot "see" the hard drive in the computer you have installed it in, I would guess that the sata connectors are not enabled.

Asus P4B8266

If you are installing it as a 2nd drive you first must enable it in bios. Even after this you must use the disk management tools to bring the drive online, set a partition, & format. Once these steps are done then the drive will be recognized. If you are installing it as a new primary drive[clean, no o/s] then you must boot it up the first time with the o/s installation disk in order to format & install the operating system. Hopefully these tips will help you get it up and running. Good luck.

Getting device error when trying to connect puter & printer

When you state removed the printer, are you stating you physically unplugged the USB cable, from the printer to the computer, and Uninstalled the printer software? If you have an uninstall option for your printer software, it's best to use it. Add/Remove Programs is the second place you go. (IF no uninstall option is present)
Start>Hover on All Programs>printer software>Uninstall.

Try this:
The printer, Must be physically disconnected from the computer, and the printer should be turned off, and unplugged from power. I'll explain why at the end of this.

Go to Start>Hover your mouse cursor on All Programs>Printer software>Look in the list for uninstall.
Click on uninstall. Follow any instructions. If it asks you are you sure, Yes is the answer. If it asks you if you want to delete any personal settings, or saved settings, Yes you do.
If it asks you if you want to restart your computer, NO you don't.

Shut the computer down normally. (Start>Turn Off Computer>Shut Down)
Computer off, unplug it from the surge protector. No power to the computer.
Press the Power On button in, and hold it in. Hold it in for a count of Five seconds. (And I mean Five seconds. Count, 1001, 1002, 1003, 1004, 1005)
Let go of the Power On button.
Do this procedure two more times.

What you are doing, is clearing any CMOS error codes.

Plug the computer back into power. Wait one minute. Turn the computer on. Let Windows fully load up.
Install the printer software CD once more into your optical drive.
Load the printer software.
If it asks you if you wish to restart your computer, Yes you do. If it doesn't ask you, restart your computer anyway.
Once Windows has fully loaded again, and all your programs in the Start menu are finished, plug the printer back into the surge protector. Plug the USB cable back into the computer. Press the Power On button of the printer, and turn it on.

I'm not trying to insult your intelligence in any way, nor your computer prowess. What I believe may have happened here, is that the printer was on, and the USB cable was plugged into the computer, when you went to uninstall and re-install the printer software.

I could be all wrong about this.

When a device is plugged into a computer, Windows recognizes that a new device has been installed.
Windows rushes around, and hurries to find drivers that are compatible with the device. If no drivers are present, Windows matches up it's Generic drivers to that device.

Then THE actual drivers are installed.
Driver conflict results.
Windows: "Which drivers do I use? These or THESE?"

Also, if the uninstall option of a software program is not used First, there could be fragmented files of that uninstalled program, floating around in the registry of Windows.
This is why it's best to use an uninstall option for a program, and then if one is not present, use Add/Remove programs.
Would appreciate some feedback on this. Even if it's an "You're all wet"

I bought a phillips portable hard disk drive and i need to format it for my Samsung tv. Can this be done.

All disks can be formatted or Erased, what you need is the Software to do it. I found Acronis to be the best software for this job, you just insert the disk and follow the instructions. But be careful, once formatted you can not retrieve any info back, and it also formats your Boot to where you have no system at all installed. You will then have to insert a system disk of your choice and install it to your new clean drive. Good Luck.

Make a windows 98 startup disk by downloading it from here http://ru.dod.net/ben/boot98.exe . Once you haver done that turn off the acerpower insert the disk and turn it on (make sure its set to boot from floppy disks in bios setup) Choose the option start computer with cd rom support. Now after about 1 minute youy should see a:\. Type in a:\fdisk and then choose yes and then create a partiossion using the prompts given . Once you have done that and its finished it should say you must restart this computer so restart it. Then boot from the floppy disk again and when it coms to a: type FORMAT C: and then press y.
