I am having the same problem with the lights flickering and then shutdown. Sometimes it takes several resettings toget the microwave to stay on.

goes on for a few seconds and then shuts off and forces you to reset the date and time.....very frustrating.

Our microwave is doing the same thing. A few seconds after starting it shuts off and you have to reset the clock/date. Now it wiill not stop this cycle and so you cannot get anything heated.

Our JVM1653SH01 has a similar problem. About half the time, the microwave halts shortly after starting to cook. It then beeps very loudly and all of the lights on the display light up. It then reboots and the clock and calendar have to be set before cooking. The problem is getting progressively worse (more frequent).

I have a very similar problem with my GE JVM1443LK01. It will cook on high for a couple of minutes and then just shuts down. It doesn't sound as if the automatic vent fan is running, the internal fan, and when it is cooking steam gathers inside the unit. The exhaust fan operates just fine. After about 15 - 30 minutes the power comes back on and I have to reset the clock. It seems to be getting worse. What are the possible issues and is it worth it to fix the unit. The unit is (3) years old.

The first thing I would check would be the magnetron TCO (thermal cut-out). This is a little safety devise that protects the magnetron in the event of overheating. These can act up even without overheating. I believe the nuetral side of this TCO runs through the board, and therefore the flickering and shutdown. When the TCO cools, it resets. If it were the door switch, you would blow the fuse and wouldn't be able to set the time without changing the fuse. There are other cavity thermostats that could be the culprit but my quess is on the magnetron TCO. When working with microwaves always unplug the unit and discharge the capacitor. This is high voltage..Good Luck

Ge pvm2070smss shuts down

It may be a noisy magnetron if the failure occurs in a second or two of hitting "Start" to begin cooking.

See this FixYa solution. even though your model number is different.

Otherwise, if the internal cooling fan is not running when you are cooking, it will shut down after 30-60 seconds or so and stay off until it cools back down.

I would check the door switches for a faulty switch. If it were condensation on the control panel. I would think it would have dried out by now unless it has damaged the control board.

Shuts down on potato button only

Not much info to go on here. Are you putting in the number of potatoes vs.the cook time? Most microwave potato functions would not read "5 minutes." It would be read as a request to cook 500 hundred potatoes.

New microwave not starting

Chances are the oven is designed for 60HZ and your supply is 50Hz. This will cause the unit to shut down because it thinks it is not getting the proper "interrupt" signal from the power line. You can check the owner's manual (or model number tag) and the manual for the converter.
