Question about Frigidaire Side by Side Refrigerator 26 Cu. Ft. FRS6R4E
I have a side by side that has ice maker problems. When you try to dispense ice cubes, it throws out cubes, broken cubes, and crushed ice. The repairman said that it is a defective design by Frigidaire, and they do not have a fix for it. He said he has one too that does the same thing, and he has to remove the ice tray every couple of weeks, empty the ice from it, and use a blow dryer to melt off the excessive frost from the dispenser. He said that the auger is crushing the ice into the front where it is trying to move them through the opening, coupled with the build up of frozen frost at the opening that is causing the problem. If that is the case, I can't believe they are still selling this piece of ****. Any suggestions?

SOURCE: crushed ice only
Behind the ice bucket is a metal housing that holds the auger motor and solenoid. The solenoid is bad. When you go for cubed ice that solenoid should pull up the metal rod on the ice bucket so full cubes will come out. First check to make sure the metal rod on the ice bucket isn't somehow caught under the solenoid and not letting if move up and down. You can take out the ice bucket and press for cubed ice. You should hear a loud clunk noise. If not then you know the solenoid is not working.

yea! I have been without cubes for 2 years. I slid out the tray, found the lever in the back where the rod went in, pulled it down, reinserted the ice tray, and IT WORKED! At first I thought I broke the lever, because I had to hold it down with a knife while I was inserting the tray, but it just must have been stuck. I am soooo happy!

chek these sites
There is an opening next to the auger that dispenses the ice. In there there is a lever that must move up and down. It actually seats the metal rod on the bottom of the ice maker and controls cube or crushed. Make sure the lever is down (cube position) when you return the basket to the freezer. I had to hold it down while I slid the rod into the opening. Cubes again. http://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/showthread.php?t=783

In my case, the metal bar on the bottom was stuck in a position that would not allow it to rotate to push cubes to the front of the unit. Simply grab the bar- and unstick it! Cubes now!!
