Brushes don't move. vacuum motor works

The brushes on the roller are driven by a wide, short rubber belt. These belts get old, worn, overheated, and break periodically.

It should be a fairly simple matter to unscrew & remove the plate, revealing the belt and roller assembly. You can get a replacement belt at Sears or nearly any vacuum shop.

While replacing the belt, it would be a good idea to take scissors or a knife (careful!) and remove the hair & other material that's wound around your roller. One thing that can cause a belt to break is when you're vacuuming & accidently pick up a string, a shoelace, a piece of cord... you know how fast that gets wound around the brush roller and locks it up? At that point, the belt is still trying to rotate the roller (which won't rotate)... and within seconds, the belt will get extremely hot. This can cause it to break, or reduce its life significantly.

This should be an easy fix, requiring nothing more than a replacement belt and a screwdriver. Good luck!

Dc 24 roller brush quit working....belt is okay & there are no obstructions on roller or in head compartment & suction at head is strong

Hi there, sometimes a stretched belt will hamper the vac. from picking up. he best way to test this is to turn the machine on, then carefully put you hand on the roller. If the belt is stretched the roller will stop turning when you apply pressure. Hope this helps, Chris

How do I change my belt?

1. Turn vacuum over so base of powerhead is facing up.
2. Remove the two screws near the roller.
3. Release the two hooks over the brush by pushing outward.
4. Gently lift and remove the plate.
5. Lift and remove brush roller.
6. Remove belt.
7. Place belt over roller in the area with no bristles.
8. Insert brush back into holder and loop belt over motor shaft.
9. Rotate the roller a few times to make sure the belt is properly positioned.
10. Replace the plate over roller, making sure the front tabs line up with the slots on the base.
11. Flip down to secure hooks.
12. Press down on plate to secure it.
13. Replace screws.
14. Turn roller a few times.

And you're done.

Anyone know why my Bissell Proheat 2X Turbo Model 9300's brushes won't turn anymore

If the Brushes don't rotate, & you have two brushes; 1). Turn unit on side. ( Make sure unit is up-pluged) 2). Rotate the front brush roller, if the second roller moves at same time, 3). Locate a small ribbed belt that goes from the further back roller, to a small ribbed pully. (Gates belt #177-3m5) ( on side under a clear cover) The belt may not be broken, but may have carpet fuzz / lint covering the belt ribs, causing the belt to slip. If that belt is OK and you find that the small pully doesn't turn the belt/rollers, the problem is with a small internal direct drive motor, that drives the brush rollers. At this point return the unit, as Bissell has a design defect & is using cheap parts.

How do I to change the belt on an eureka altima 12?

the belt is on the bottom right (looking at it from the front). the Eureka website does have the manual for download, http://www.eureka.com/service/manuals/80244.pdf

With the vacuum flattened (straightened) out, turn it over and remove the back roller cover, (2 screws) once off, the roller should just pop out on the opposite side (opposite from the belt). Don't forget to turn the roller to center the belt once you have it on.

Eureka, whirlwind 12 amp vacuum does not pick up anything

That problem can be caused by the belt being stretched out and even though it is spinning when you look at it, with the resistance of the carpet it will stop.

With a model number I could tell you exactly how to change the belt, but most of the whirlwinds I've seen are similar.

You need to gain access the belt and roller. On most models there are two screws on the top of the nozzle inside one of the four indentions that run along each side. Once you take those out it allows you to take the hood off.

Remove the brush roller and old belt. Wrap the new belt around the motor shaft and place the roller through the belt loop and use the roller as leverage to stretch the roller back into the roller housing. It will take a little muscle. Give the roller a spin by hand before putting the hood back on. It should spin easily. If it doesn't then you might have pinched the belt and need to free it or the belt will just burn up when you turn the unit on.

A clog in the hose going down to the nozzle would also cause this problem, so check that hose when you take the hood off.

How to change the belt on a eureka 11 amp model #4337

There are two screws on the hood of your vacuum that you will find inside those decorative holes on either side of the top. Use a phillips head scredriver to remove them and the hood will come off. You can then change the belt.
