Re: would record images
DCR-DVD100 is mentioned in free of cost CCD replacement scheme announced by Sony. If you want to replace it by yourself then it requires few $$ and soldering expertise. I would recommend to contact Sony and let the job done by Sony experts. You will spend $15 in shipment, Click Sony Support for details. Good Luck.

If your Sony DCR-HC14E shows fine picture in playback of old tapes and does not give live view in camera mode to record then its CDD Imager problem that Sony will repair free of cost. Click Sony CCD Imager Support for details.
I HAD THIS PROBLEM ERROR CODE C31 : 22 WOULD COME UP AND TRV 118 CAM WOULD NOT WORK. I TRIED EVERYTHING TILL ONE DAY I BANGED IT ON A CARPETED FLOOR ON THE BOTTOM OF THE CAMCORDER 5 TIMES QUITE HARD. THEN THE CAM WORKED JUST FINE! MY CAM HADN'T WORKED FOR OVER 7 MONTHS. NOW I HAVE IT BACK. HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE.
This model Sony has a known defect in the CCD image sensor which will cause the camcorder to record a black picture or smeared picture. When played back, the sound will be fine but the picture will be black or smeared. Your older tpes you made before will be just fine when played. Sony is fixing this for free, postage paid. Go to their site, go to the support area and put in this model and you should be able to find the notice for this problem. They will send you a paid UPS shipping label to print out. You'll have your camcorder back working in about 2 weeks! :) Mike63
It sounds like a loose connector to the CCD or it could be a defective CCD. Your model is not included in models with this problem being handle as a free repair by Sony, but go here to troubleshoot the symptoms: http://www.imaging-resource.com/badccds.html
If it's not covered by Sony's CCD warranty, check on Fixya's home page for independent shops who can repair it for much less than the factory.
If the images you are capturing are hazy with zig zag colors etc...the imaging IC is faulty. If the problem in Display unit only but the captured image is OK when you transfer the same to PC..then LCD may be having problems.
We can help you in spares of Sony and we can also offer the service manual.
Kindly let me know after your examination.
