On eMacines, the recovery partition contains your driver and software. But you needed to create the recovery cd set when you got your computer.
To restore it,if your computer came with XP, borrow an Win XP cd (cannot be a HP,Dell etc).
Try a repair first:
When you boot with the Win XP install CD-ROM, it loads a minimal operating system, similar to DOS, but compatible with Win XP. At the first screen you select install Win XP (not Recovery Console) and at the next screen it will find that you already have Win XP and offer to attempt a repair. This repair should not touch your applications, it just reinstall the Windows files. This is great because when it works you don't need to reinstall all your software.
If a repair does not work, do a complete install.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

My Dell Dimension 2400 has stopped working - how do i restore the factory settings ?

Hello,

It appears your model Dell 2400 should have been supplied with the CD's for reinstalling Windows XP, CD will be green or blue in color and the drivers and applications that came with the computer.

If so, back up your files first to an external drive and then put the CD in the CD drive and reboot the computer. It should come up to reinstall XP.

If good to go, you will be prompted to install the second Cd as well as online XP updates.
Software that was installed after you bought the computer also wouyld have to be reinstall as well as restoring your backed up file.

Rememberm all data is lost when you reinstall your operating system, unless these is a choice on install that may ask for destructive, or non-destrutive (keeps files).

I am attaching a link to Dell for your to copy and paste into your web browser for the support page for drivers and user guide in the event you need to reveiw the process.

How do i rest my dell computer to factory settings

Resetting a consumer desktop/laptop to factory settings is fairly straight-forward. Follow the steps below to reinstall the OS and drivers.
Before beginning, here are the items you will need:
A. Computer/laptop B. Microsoft Windows OS CD/DVD
1. Power on your computer. 2. Insert the Windows OS CD/DVD in to the optical drive. 3. Restart the computer and boot from the CD/DVD when prompted. 4. Follow the installation prompts to complete the install. 5. Once completed, eject the CD/DVD and perform a Windows Update to update the system and any drivers you may be missing.

Factory restore

If you have no program choices in the Programs menu to do a factory restore, you will have to use the CD/DVD that came with the computer.
I don't know why you need to do a restore, but if the computer still is working and you don't have a recovery CD/DVD, the Programs area may give you an option to create a set of restore CD's or DVD's.

Otherwise, you will have to request a set from the computer dealer. There are other ways, but they are a bit tedious.

Can't factory restore dell inspiron 531 (windows xp).

You might want to try going into setup and setting your boot drive options to DVD drive as your 1st, HD as 2nd and Floppy as 3rd. Put your windows disk in the DVD before boot and run the program from DVD.

Lost DVD Driver in Windows XP Pro!

DVD Driers. DVD's do not have drivers. A DVD Drive could need a firmware update. What kind of drive is it. What kind of computer. Have you checked the jumpers or cable? Try changing the cable. What software are you using to burn your DVD / CD's? What OS is this? There are several things that can cause this. Is your computer recognizing it? Right click my computer and go to properties and check your hardware area for ? marks.
