Did you accidentally press the lower left "DISP" button on the back of your camera (turns the LCD on and off to save batteries)?

IT LOOKS LIKE YOUR LCD MONITOR IS NOT WORKING OR THERE MIGHT BE A CONNECTION PROBLEM. EITHER WAY IT REQUIRES A SPECIALIST TO PHYSICALLY CHECK IT OUT. IN THE MEANTIME YOU COULD STILL USE THE VIEW FINDER TO TAKE PICS.

Could be a problem with the CCD circuitry. You will need to get it serviced, I'm afraid.

No picture on LCD monitor when camera (rebel xt) is turned on

I am not sure what is the problem. You say no"picture"..is the screen totally black? Even when you try to preview photos in your camera memory? If so there is a problem with the hardware, LCD screen battery, or some other part.

If you mean you only see numbers and photo setting information on the LCD, that is normal for this Rebel models. The picture only appears in the viewfinder. It does not have a "live view' function to switch the image from the viewfinder to the LCD while you are shooting, as later model have. I have such a model and it is very disappointing.

When i turn it on the screen is white and dose not show any thing

Can you take pictures with it? Try to take pictures and then try to download to PC. If it is ok, then the LCD screen may be bad or the Ribbon cable may be misaligned from its connector. Open the camera (a few screws). Lift the pressure plate in the LCD ribbon cable connector gently, and pull out the ribbon cable. Reinsert it and close the pressure plate. If that doesnt help, I suspect the LCD. You may need to replace the LCD.

Rebel XT doesn’t have live view function. You cannot have picture on LCD when taking picture. If you can review the pictures and operate menu on LCD, your camera just fine.

Sounds like a cracked LCD screen. You may be able to fix it if you can find a replacement screen. I usually search ebay for a broken camera with other problems that I can cannibalize. Here's some examples on LCD replacement, including one for your camera. Don't recommend that you try this yourself, unless you have some experience and are comfortable with electronics.

Otherwise, the cost of professional repair is beyond the value of this camera. A better option is to sell the camera on ebay for other repair hobbyists to replace the screen for themselves. You actually may get a good price for the camera IF it's still capable of taking pictures:

Monitor does not stay on

The LCD monitor screen at the back of the camera does not display a live picture like many point-n-shoot digitals. It only displays after the pic is taken. Use the LCD on the top cover to check your settings. Please leave feedback if this helps.

LCD Display

If you mean you see no picture on the lcd monitor before you take the picture and see it only after you have taken it than this is normal with digital SLRs. But if you mean you see nothing on the lcd monitor after you have taken a picture ( no playback ) then either the shutter is not working , or the CMOS sensor is not working or the camera is not communicating with CF card.
